{"id":127306,"date":"2025-10-17T05:04:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T05:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/127306\/"},"modified":"2025-10-17T05:04:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T05:04:13","slug":"national-gallery-will-host-apy-artwork-exhibition-after-paintings-cleared-of-improper-interference-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/127306\/","title":{"rendered":"National Gallery will host APY artwork exhibition after paintings cleared of improper interference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The National Gallery of Australia will host a major exhibition of art from the A\u1e49angu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in 2026, three years after an independent review cleared artists of allegations of improper interference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The exhibition, Ngura Pulka \u2014 Epic Country, was postponed in June 2023 after a video emerged which appeared to show a non-Aboriginal assistant helping to paint an artwork.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">As a result of the allegations, <a class=\"Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2023-08-02\/apy-artworks-found-to-comply-with-national-gallery-standards\/102678432\" data-component=\"Link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the gallery commissioned an independent review<\/a> into the provenance of 28 paintings by APY artists that were to have featured in the exhibition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">It found that all paintings satisfied the NGA&#8217;s &#8220;provenance standards&#8221;, which relate to the integrity of artistic production, and determined the work in the video was not one of the paintings included in the exhibition.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Stills of video which played a role in the Australian's four month investigation\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1760677453_737_b47651ce5b5cc26dc4b1e85f553c5a7a\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The independent investigation found the painting seen in the video was not one of the pieces included in the postponed exhibition.
