{"id":127953,"date":"2025-10-17T12:09:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T12:09:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/127953\/"},"modified":"2025-10-17T12:09:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T12:09:08","slug":"firm-faces-criminal-charges-over-drowning-of-john-mullan-and-his-children-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/127953\/","title":{"rendered":"Firm faces criminal charges over drowning of John Mullan and his children \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">Criminal proceedings have been issued against a roadworks company following the deaths of a father and two children in a road incident in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donegal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donegal\">Co Donegal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">John Mullan and his children T\u00f3mas (14) and Amelia (six) died after their car left the road, slid down an embankment at Quigley\u2019s Point and entered Lough Foyle on August 20th, 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Geraldine Mullan (50), who was a front seat passenger in the car being driven by her husband, managed to survive after she got out and stood on top of the car.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The inquests into the deaths of Mr Mullan, T\u00f3mas and Amelia were mentioned at Donegal Coroner\u2019s Court sitting in Letterkenny Courthouse today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The inquest officially opened on January 12th, 2024, and was adjourned after the coroner heard legal proceedings were being considered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In October 2024 the court heard a criminal investigation had begun and could take some years.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"John Mullan, son Tom&#xE1;s and daughter Amelia who drowned in Lough Foyle.
