But following their live stint, frontman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/jarvis-cocker\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jarvis Cocker<\/a> took to Instagram to reveal that an episode of Miss Marple was mistakenly subtitled to their single, and he presented a series of images to evidence the blunder.<\/p>\n<p>Cocker wrote: \u201cWhodunnit? It appears that our performance on the Mercury Prize was accompanied by\u2026\u2026 the subtitles to an episode of Miss Marple! Thanks to Peter Chilvers for gathering the evidence &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/brian-eno\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brian Eno<\/a> for raising the alarm. I suspect the butler\u2026..\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DP46GV6gqZE\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Pulp\u2019s recent album <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/pulp-more-album-review-jarvis-cocker-3866730\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018More\u2019<\/a> was among the nominees on the night which saw Fender\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/sam-fender-people-watching-review-3840019\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">People Watching<\/a>\u2018 win <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/sam-fender-wins-mercury-prize-2025-for-people-watching-3899105\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the top prize<\/a> before he performed the title track from his winning album to a standing ovation.<\/p>\n<p>Accepting the award, Fender led the audience in a chant of \u201cToon Toon\u201d. He said \u201cwe didn\u2019t expect this at all\u2026I can\u2019t think!\u201d He then went on to thank some of his \u201cvery good friends among the nominees tonight\u201d including CMAT and Fontaines D.C. adding that he was in \u201cgreat company.\u201d He also dedicated the award to the late Annie Orwin, who inspired \u2018People Watching\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Other performances on the night included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/fka-twigs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FKA Twigs<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/wolf-alice\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wolf Alice<\/a>. This meant that the records needed to have been released between Saturday July 13, 2024, and Friday August 29, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/mercury-music-prize-announce-2025-dates-and-move-to-newcastle-3861105\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mercury Prize moved up north from its traditional home in London<\/a> this year, as part of a new partnership with Newcastle City Council and the North East Combined Authority. The ceremony followed a week-long regional fringe programme to \u201ccelebrate the depth and diversity of talent in the north and create opportunities for local talent\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s Mercurys were held at London\u2019s iconic Abbey Road Studios, and saw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/english-teacher-win-the-2024-mercury-prize-for-this-could-be-texas-3791098\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">English Teacher take home the award <\/a>for their universally-acclaimed debut album, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/english-teacher-this-could-be-texas-debut-album-review-tracklist-radar-3600231\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018This Could Be Texas\u2019<\/a>.
