{"id":129103,"date":"2025-10-18T00:03:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T00:03:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/129103\/"},"modified":"2025-10-18T00:03:15","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T00:03:15","slug":"record-number-of-tourism-nights-in-2024-in-the-eu-news-articles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/129103\/","title":{"rendered":"Record number of tourism nights in 2024 in the EU &#8211; News articles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">In 2024, the number of nights spent in <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Tourist_accommodation_establishment\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tourist accommodation establishments<\/a> across the <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:European_Union_(EU)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">EU<\/a> increased by 2.7% compared with 2023, exceeding 3 billion for the first time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">Close to two-thirds (62.8%) of all overnight stays were made in <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Hotels_and_similar_accommodation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hotels and similar accommodation<\/a>, 23.7% in <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Holiday_and_other_short-stay_accommodation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">holiday and other short-stay accommodation<\/a> such as rented apartments and 13.5% in <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Glossary:Camping_grounds,_recreational_vehicle_parks_and_trailer_parks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">camping grounds, recreational vehicle parks and trailer parks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">Among EU countries, Cyprus and Malta registered the highest year-on-year growth in tourism nights, with increases of 14.5% and 14.4%, respectively. Latvia followed at a distance, registering a 7.4% growth rate compared with 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">In contrast, only 2 countries recorded slight decreases compared with 2023: Finland (-0,7%) and France (-0.6%). See link to the full dataset below.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/49e04592-8222-40b1-7642-d557d3057aa9\" style=\"margin: 0px;\" width=\"700\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph ecl-u-type-align-center\">Source dataset: <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/databrowser\/bookmark\/e8a6c224-da2b-4852-8346-e4dde436ffc8?lang=en&amp;createdAt=2025-10-13T11:56:01Z\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tour_occ_nina<\/a>t<\/p>\n<p>Majority of tourism nights comes from domestic and intra-EU travel<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">Most of the 3.02 billion nights spent across the EU were made by domestic guests from their respective countries (51.9%; 1.57 billion) while the remaining 48.1% (1.45 billion) were made by international guests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">The majority of nights spent by international guests were tourists from other EU countries (61.6%) and other European countries (21.3%), while only 16.4% of international overnight stays were made by people from other world regions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">Among them, guests from North America accounted for 7.5% of all international stays, ahead of Asia with 4.9%, Central and South America with 2.3%, Oceania with 1.0% and Africa with 0.8%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ecec6587-aaf5-3a48-a592-e3cc75531f21\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Nights by international guests in EU tourist accommodation, by region of guest residence, 2024.
