Set in Victorian London in the 19th century, Miss Scarlet follows the fiercely independent Eliza Scarlet (Kate Phillips), who finds herself nearly penniless after the sudden death of her father. Rather than marry for financial security, Eliza decides to take over her late father\u2019s detective agency 0 a bold move in a world where women aren\u2019t exactly welcomed in the business of solving crime.<\/p>\n

Determined to make her mark, Eliza teams up with (and often clashes) her childhood friend William \u201cThe Duke\u201d Wellington (Stuart Martin), a gruff Scotland Yard detective who she both infuriates and inspires. In series 5, following Steve\u2019s departure from Miss Scarlett, The Duke was replaced by DI Alexander Blake (Tom Durant-Pritchard).<\/p>\n

When we last left Miss Scarlet, life for Eliza Scarlet was anything but straightforward. A new Detective Inspector had taken charge at Scotland Yard – and he wasn\u2019t exactly eager to call on her investigative talents. But, in true Eliza fashion, she refused to be sidelined. With her trademark determination and quick thinking, she soon proved herself indispensable, earning his hard-won respect.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, on the home front, there was a surprise of a different kind, as Eliza\u2019s devoted hoursekeeper announced her engagement to coroner Barnabus Potts (Simon Ludder). With a wedding on the horizon and a shifting household dynamic, it\u2019s fair to say change is in the air.<\/p>\n

As a new chapter begins in series 6, one question remains: will Eliza keep throwing herself into her detective work, or is it finally time for her to open her heart beyond the job? A more flourishing personal life is certainly something that Kate would like to see for her character in series 6. <\/p>\n

She explained: \u201cI would hope for Eliza that she is able to harness some more success in her personal life. I think professionally, she\u2019s gone from strength to strength, but emotionally, I think she\u2019s got a lot to learn, and I hope there\u2019s more joy to be had in her personal life and her emotional life. She\u2019s got a little bit of growing up to do in that regard, but I think she has it in her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, creator Rachel New shared insight into what to expect in series 6. She said: \u201cI think series 6 is probably the most exciting season for Eliza because we see a very different side of her emerging. We left her in Season 5 feeling that her life was out of balance. She pretty much lost the love of her life, her long-term friend, partner\u2026with the Duke. It was very much her throwing herself into work and thinking, \u2018Okay, this is my life,\u2019 but feeling that there was something slightly missing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess I can say her love life flourishes, but it\u2019s complicated still. Her profession causes her problems, her ambition to succeed\u2026still there is that clash with personal happiness. But there\u2019s still lots of adventure and fun. This season has more of an emotional punch.\u201d<\/p>\n
