They went and beat Croatian champions Rijeka away, only for Tony Fruk and Tiago Dantas to wallop two of the best goals witnessed at Tolka Park to turn the tie around. <\/p>\n Onwards, demanded new manager Joey O\u2019Brien<\/a>, with his steady, uncomplicated approach making Damien Duff\u2019s<\/a> shock resignation on June 23rd fade from memory. <\/p>\n What nobody considered during the north Dubliners\u2019 mazy run from Belfast to Baku was the price Shelbourne players might have to pay for unfurling a large Tricolour after overcoming Linfield at Windsor Park on July 16th. <\/p>\n \u201cNo, I don\u2019t think so,\u201d O\u2019Brien countered. \u201cUp there, coming off the pitch, they clapped us off. We didn\u2019t get too carried away. Not that O\u2019Brien is changing his tune. The same questions are continually put to him about Shelbourne being on the cusp of earning \u20ac3.8 million in Uefa prize money for reaching the Conference League proper. And it keeps being said to the players that this is the biggest moment in their careers, and the most important for the club since 2004 when a team that included Wes Hoolahan and Jason Byrne rattled Deportivo La Coruna. <\/p>\n \u201cI suppose it is when you step away from it and you look at it and think, \u2018what\u2019s at stake?\u2019\u201d O\u2019Brien concurred. \u201cAs the manager and the lads as players, you don\u2019t wake up every minute of the day and say, \u2018Jesus, this is the biggest game we\u2019ve ever played\u2019. <\/p>\n \u201cYou wouldn\u2019t be able to play. That\u2019s not what it\u2019s about. It\u2019s about focusing on your performance, focusing on what has got us to where we are. The level of performance over the last number of weeks overall has been really, really good. Our performance in Europe has been really, really good. <\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s about, again, implementing that tomorrow and making sure you just focus on your performance. You come in here and you have no regrets after the game.\u201d<\/p>\n When Linfield\u2019s improved squad is flung at the former Republic of Ireland defender, O\u2019Brien highlights the fact that Shelbourne have refused to stand still in the transfer market.
