The former grain store in the Hampshire countryside is Max’s centre of operations and showroom, full of gloriously enticing, original pieces; it is also host to upholstery, restoration and furniture-making workshops. She introduced herself to Max and asked for his help in transforming her new house. And so began a very fruitful relationship.

<img decoding="async" alt="Facing the window is a ‘Hepplewhite sofa made bespoke by Max. Tucked away down a tiny back street, the Grade II-listed, eight bedroom house had undergone many changes of use and redesigns; at one stage it was the headquarters of the quaintly named local Ladies’ Club. As Max explains, ‘I am not a person for a lot of change, and the house was already large enough for all of the family’s needs, but it did require some reorganisation to make it feel more like a home.’ To this end, he brought in George Saumarez-Smith of Adam Architecture, with whom he has collaborated frequently, as they share a particular sensibility.

The American owner of this house in Hampshire first came across Max Rollitt when she read about his…

[267
365,362,363,364,1578,366,18,117,78741,78742,25284,19,17,62172,8467
0":"post-131192","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-arts-and-design","8":"tag-arts","9":"tag-arts-and-design","10":"tag-artsanddesign","11":"tag-artsdesign","12":"tag-city","13":"tag-design","14":"tag-eire","15":"tag-entertainment","16":"tag-houses-by-max-rollitt","17":"tag-houses-by-members-of-the-list","18":"tag-houses-by-our-top-100-interior-designers-architects","19":"tag-ie","20":"tag-ireland","21":"tag-traditional-city","22":"tag-traditional-houses
["GET
