To win the presidency in the first round, a candidate must<br \/>\nsecure an absolute majority-that is, more than 50% of the valid<br \/>\nvotes.<\/p>\n<p>If no candidate achieves this threshold, the top two candidates<br \/>\nwill proceed to a runoff election held within seven days. The<br \/>\ncandidate who receives the most votes in the second round will be<br \/>\ndeclared the next President of the TRNC.<\/p>\n<p>This year, seven candidates are contesting the election, five of<br \/>\nwhom are running as independents.
