\n\tTim Curry<\/a> opened up about the stroke he suffered in 2012, sharing he had no idea anything was wrong until a masseuse suggested he go to the hospital.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor, known for his iconic roles in such films as The Rocky Horror Picture Show<\/a>, Clue<\/a>, Annie<\/a>, It and Home Alone 2, gave an interview to Turner Classic Movies<\/a> host Ben Mankiewicz that aired<\/a> on CBS Sunday Morning<\/a>, where he shared the details about that fateful day.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was so strange,\u201d he said. \u201cI was actually having a massage, and the guy who was giving me a massage said, \u2018I\u2019m worried about you. I think we should call a doctor.\u2019 I felt fine. I had no symptoms I was aware of. I wasn\u2019t in pain.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCurry found out he\u2019d had a stroke after being admitted to the hospital, and immediately thought about his dad, who\u2019d suffered a fatal stroke when Curry was 10. \u201cI was scared,\u201d he said of his reaction to learning he was following in his dad\u2019s footsteps.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfterward, Curry had brain surgery and rehabilitation. \u201cI had to learn how to speak again,\u201d he said. \u201cThat was very weird. I hated not being able to speak.\u201d In addition, the left side of his face became paralyzed. \u201cMy face kind of went sideways,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tOf his role as a mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter, \u201cthe sweet transvestite, from Transsexual, Transylvania,\u201d as he so memorably sang in Rocky Horror, Curry said that role helped others were might have been afraid to be different.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe had a lot of power \u2014 Frank. He gave a lot of teenagers permission to be different and i\u2019m very happy that he did have that power,\u201d Curry said.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor has a new memoir, Vagabond, but told Mankiewicz he prefers to that some secrets stay secret, so the book isn\u2019t a tell-all. \u201cOne of the keys is to not encourage an identity,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve tried to nurse that. I have protected that and continued to.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCurry also opened up about his mom, whom he believes had bipolar disorder. She exhibited frequent mood swings and could be cruel to her son, Curry said. Despite his success, she \u201cdidn\u2019t make much of it,\u201d he said. \u201cShe was scared of it. She said to me later that \u2018I thought your head was going to grow too big.\u2019 She would have preferred me to operate under the radar. \u2026 [But] I never did. I didn\u2019t give a shit about the radar.\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n

\n\tHe also doesn\u2019t wallow in sadness. \u201cI don\u2019t admire self-pity much \u2014\u00a0another legacy from my mother, I guess,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s one I am thankful for. \u2018Why are you so important that we have to pity you?’\u201d he said, laughing.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor, now 79, added that he isn\u2019t afraid of dying.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t fear death. I try to avoid it,\u201d he said, laughing. \u201cI think we all do, but I suspect that in the end, I will welcome it.
