Asked in a now-deleted social media video, which \u201cBritish icon\u201d he would like to see front the luxury brand, Blyth mixed up his nationalities.<\/p>\n
\u201cBritish icon I\u2019d like to see in a Burberry campaign? Ooh, I mean, Cillian Murphy. Let\u2019s say Cillian,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Murphy, of course, may be an icon but he\u2019s from Cork.<\/p>\n
Fans and fellow celebrities were quick to react, with Irish actor Eve Hewson simply commenting \u201cOh, boy\u201d under a LadBible Ireland post about the clip.<\/p>\n
Musician Imelda May added: \u201cIt usually goes like this: \u2018I know you Irish are officially not British but\u2026 you kinda just are though aren\u2019t you\u2026 like I know that you\u2019re all \u2018not\u2019 but you all \u2018are\u2019 though.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Love Island star Greg O\u2019Shea weighed in too, posting a vomit emoji.<\/p>\n
Now, speaking at the BFI London Film Festival premiere of his new film Wasteman, Blyth said he was \u201cembarrassed\u201d when the topic was brought up and apologised profusely.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirstly, I\u2019m so sorry to you and your people,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve nothing but respect for the Irish and I love Cillian Murphy. I was so embarrassed \u2013 I was so jetlagged that I didn\u2019t listen to the question properly and I just blurted it out.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh my God, Cillian Murphy is never going to want to work with me,\u201d he added with a laugh. \u201cI genuinely was knackered and just not listening properly. I\u2019ve learnt my lesson. Next time, critically hearing is an important thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
When told he might be allowed back into Cork after his apology, he smiled and said: \u201cWe\u2019ll see \u2013 maybe a little while longer.\u201d<\/p>\n

It isn\u2019t the first time Murphy has had to correct people over his nationality. During an Inception press interview alongside Tom Hardy, the journalist introduced the pair as \u201cBritish actors\u201d.<\/p>\n
Murphy instantly interjected: \u201cNah, I\u2019m Irish.\u201d The interviewer responded, \u201cYeah, I know, British.\u201d<\/p>\n
Murphy repeated firmly: \u201cNo, no, no, no, there\u2019s a big difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Oppenheimer star has long been vocal about his pride in his heritage.<\/p>\n
Speaking to press after winning his Baftas, he told reporters: \u201cI\u2019m a really proud Irishman. I have to say that, of course, I am. It means a lot to me to be Irish.\u201d<\/p>\n
Before quipping: \u201cSo I don\u2019t know what else to say. Should I sing a rebel song?\u201d<\/p>\n
