{"id":134132,"date":"2025-10-20T15:10:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T15:10:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/134132\/"},"modified":"2025-10-20T15:10:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T15:10:11","slug":"worker-who-was-fired-and-stabbed-days-after-marrying-bosss-daughter-wins-e30000-at-wrc-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/134132\/","title":{"rendered":"Worker who was fired and stabbed days after marrying boss\u2019s daughter wins \u20ac30,000 at WRC \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A worker who said he was fired days after marrying his boss\u2019s daughter \u2013 and was stabbed when he turned up to get his car \u2013 has won over \u20ac30,000 for unfair dismissal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) made the award in a wholly-anonymised decision on foot of a complaint under the Unfair Dismissals Act 1977. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">An adjudicator noted the assaults were still under investigation by An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na and that publishing the parties\u2019 details might identify an asylum seeker. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The employee was earning \u20ac508 a week working at the motor garage, the tribunal noted. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The tribunal heard that in the autumn of 2024, the worker \u201cmarried the owner\u2019s daughter and two days later was dismissed when he was told not to return to work\u201d, adjudicator Conor Stokes recorded in his decision. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cHe was instructed to return to the garage to collect his car, but was set upon and stabbed when he attended at the appointed hour,\u201d Mr Stokes wrote. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe complainant indicated that this matter and subsequent assaults are with the garda\u00ed for investigation,\u201d the adjudicator added.
