Moore performed to a packed St Comgall’s as part of a fundraiser for the Shankill Women\u2019s Centre and the nearby Falls Women\u2019s Centre on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

F\u00e9ile an Phobail donated \u00a320,000 to the centres at the beginning of the concert.<\/p>\n

Moore took to the stage alongside Shankill Women\u2019s Centre\u2019s Betty Carlisle and Suzanne McCrory from the Falls Women\u2019s Centre.<\/p>\n

Ms Carlisle said: \u201cThe Shankill Women\u2019s Centre is so, so grateful.<\/p>\n

“We started work to end violence against women and girls, and I tell you what, this donation is going to go a long, long, long way in helping us do that, so thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms McCrory added: \u201cOn behalf of the Falls Women\u2019s Centre staff and management, we would like to say a personal thank you for thinking of our centre, and hopefully this money will help us in our work to end violence against women and young girls.\u201d<\/p>\n

The folk legend sang classic tunes including Viva La Quinta Brigada, Lyra McKee, Ride On, Beeswing, and Yellow Triangle.<\/p>\n

Moore is one of Ireland\u2019s most iconic folk singers and songwriters, renowned for his powerful voice, and profound connection to the Irish people.<\/p>\n

He is a founding member of Planxty and Moving Hearts, has spent decades as a solo artist, producing songs that resonate on personal and political levels.<\/p>\n

The symbolism of the evening was not lost in the musical experience; in a part of the city shadowed by a concrete reminder of division, there was a packed venue, gathering to support women and girls from both nationalist and unionist communities.<\/p>\n

F\u00e9ile Director Kevin Gamble said: \u201cWe are absolutely delighted that Christy Moore was in west Belfast last night to play this special intimate concert for F\u00e9ile an Phobail.<\/p>\n

F\u00e9ile celebrate 5th consecutive year of no August bonfires in west Belfast<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are particularly proud that the concert was a charity fundraiser in aid of the Shankill and Falls Women\u2019s Centres.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe work these two organisations do in our communities is invaluable, and it’s fantastic to see them here together this evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this time, the issue of violence against women and girls is very prominent, and there is so much that needs to be done to combat this.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe funds raised tonight will help in some small way towards that and towards other services to support women\u2019s development within our communities through the provision of training, education, childcare, advice, advocacy, counselling, health and well-being.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to thank Christy for giving his valuable time to come here and make this amazing gesture for our communities. It\u2019s amazing.<\/p>\n
