{"id":13589,"date":"2025-08-21T09:50:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-21T09:50:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/13589\/"},"modified":"2025-08-21T09:50:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-21T09:50:08","slug":"divock-origi-set-to-rip-up-contract-after-spending-entire-year-with-the-reserves-liverpool-fc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/13589\/","title":{"rendered":"Divock Origi set to rip up contract after spending entire year with the reserves &#8211; Liverpool FC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><a data-ail=\"326032\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/divock-origi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Divock Origi<\/a> has spent an entire year frozen out of the first team at <a data-ail=\"326032\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/ac-milan\/\" title=\"AC Milan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">AC Milan<\/a>, and the former Liverpool striker is now set to rip up his contract early.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Origi left Liverpool after seven years in 2022 but has gone on to play 58 games of senior football since.<\/p>\n<p>The Belgian has clocked just 1,941 minutes on the pitch during spells with parent club <a data-ail=\"326032\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/ac-milan\/\" title=\"AC Milan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">AC Milan<\/a> and on loan at <a data-ail=\"326032\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/nottingham-forest\/\" title=\"Nottingham Forest\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nottingham Forest<\/a> over the past three seasons.<\/p>\n<p>His last outing saw him play 10 minutes for Forest in a 2-0 defeat to <a data-ail=\"326032\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/everton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Everton<\/a> in April 2024, finding himself frozen out of the first-team setup upon his return to Milan last summer.<\/p>\n<p>Now, after an entire year training with Milan\u2019s U23s side, Origi is negotiating an early termination of his contract.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gazzetta.it\/Calcio\/Serie-A\/Milan\/19-08-2025\/milan-origi-rescinde-addio-al-flop-del-mercato-2022.shtml\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">La Gazzetta dello Sport<\/a> reports that the 30-year-old will agree to a severance pay of less than half his \u20ac4 million annual wage to tear up his contract with a year remaining.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/P2022-12-13-Dubai_Super_Cup_Arsenal_Milan-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - Tuesday, December 13, 2022: AC Milan's Divock Origi during the pre-match warm-up before the Dubai Super Cup 2022 match between Arsenal FC and AC Milan at the Al Maktoum Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe\/Propaganda)\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-medium wp-image-276498\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Origi will then be available as a free agent and could join another side in the current transfer window, though it remains to be seen which clubs will be interested \u2013 in March it was <a data-mil=\"326032\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/2025\/03\/divock-origi-transfer-mystery-as-italian-outlet-claims-he-refused-ac-milan-exit\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">claimed he had rejected<\/a> a number of loan moves.<\/p>\n<p>Having barely played since his departure from Liverpool three years ago it is likely that interested parties would see a deal as a calculated risk.<\/p>\n<p>But Origi proved himself an exceptional finisher during his time on Merseyside and could be a useful option for sides in the top tier of European football.<\/p>\n<p>It would not even be out of the question to thrust his name into the current merry-go-round of strikers being considered by <a data-ail=\"326032\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/premier-league\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Premier League<\/a> clubs, including <a data-ail=\"326032\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/newcastle\/\" title=\"Newcastle\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Newcastle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2H95FTW-copy-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"2H95FTW Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Divock Origi celebrate after the Premier League match at Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton. Picture date: Saturday December 4, 2021.\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-medium wp-image-258160\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Speaking in a live Q&amp;A following his resignation at Liverpool last summer, <a data-ail=\"326032\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/jurgen-klopp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jurgen Klopp<\/a> explained <a data-mil=\"326032\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/2024\/05\/jurgen-klopp-has-theory-why-insane-divock-origi-has-struggled-after-liverpool\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">his theory as to why Origi has struggled<\/a> since leaving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s looks like he really functioned here and it really worked out for him here, in the role he had,\u201d Klopp said, having largely employed Origi as a substitute.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason why we see Divock in a different way is because I knew Divock before the fella from <a data-ail=\"326032\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/everton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Everton<\/a>, [Ramiro] Funes Mori, killed his ankle. He was incredible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe played, at Borussia Dortmund, a game I never saw from a striker, honestly. You get knocked down, really bad tackle, and then he comes back for the <a data-ail=\"326032\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/europa-league\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Europa League<\/a> final, he rushed it a little bit, because it was a final, he tried to get on the pitch, didn\u2019t work out properly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd in a really important phase of his career, he couldn\u2019t keep getting confidence, couldn\u2019t learn how good he actually is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we used him in the way we used him.
