Manchester United<\/a> are optimistic of signing Morten Hjulmand<\/a> from Sporting Lisbon in January.<\/p>\n Article continues under the video<\/p>\n That is according to TeamTalk<\/a>, who report that Ruben Amorim “absolutely loves” his former Sporting midfielder and wants to bring him to Old Trafford.<\/p>\n United have made the signing of a top central midfielder their priority in the January transfer window, and Amorim has made the 26-year-old Hjulmand his priority.<\/p>\n The report claims that United are “optimistic of signing” Hjulmand as early as January for below his release clause.<\/p>\n Hjulmand to Man Utd <\/p>\n Hjulmand has a release clause of \u20ac80m in his Sporting contract but United believe they can seal a deal at around \u20ac57m.<\/p>\n The good relationship between the clubs, and Amorim’s presence, will help the deal go through.<\/p>\n The Denmark international is a player who is greatly admired by his former head coach Amorim, with the Portuguese tactician previously describing Hjulmand as more complete than Sporting<\/b><\/a> predecessors Joao Palhinha and Manuel Ugarte.<\/p>\n The 26-year-old has been brilliant for the reigning Portuguese champions since replacing Ugarte in 2023, captaining the side to last season’s league title.<\/p>\n Unsurprisingly, Hjulmand has been attracting attention from elsewhere, including from Man Utd<\/b><\/a>, who were in the market for a midfielder in the summer. Carlos Baleba was prioritised, but no move materialised.<\/p>\n Hjulmand was also explored, but as The Transfers Podcast<\/b><\/a> revealed at the beginning of August, signing the Denmark international was always going to prove eminently difficult in a window in which Sporting had already lost Viktor Gyokeres.<\/p>\n But United are now returning for Hjulmand ahead of January.<\/p>\n Speaking on international duty with Denmark last month, the midfielder would not be drawn on Man Utd’s interest: \u201cI don’t react to rumours.
