A planning application for a \u20ac400 million development at the former Cleeves factory site in Limerick city is set to be submitted by Limerick Twenty Thirty next week.<\/p>\n

The plans for the Cleeves Riverside Quarter include a mixed development of housing, apartments and student accommodation on the banks of the River Shannon.<\/p>\n

It also provides for commercial space, a cr\u00e8che and two acres of public realm with new parks and plazas.<\/p>\n

Limerick Twenty Thirty, an economic development company established by Limerick Council, said the scale and ambition of the project reflects a commitment to meeting housing needs and shaping a sustainable future for the city.<\/p>\n

The development company will reveal the plan first at a public information event at The Flaxmill building in Cleeves Riverside Quarter tomorrow.<\/p>\n

A separate briefing of elected members will be given on Thursday, with the plans then being formally lodged with An Coimisi\u00fan Plean\u00e1la next week for consideration.<\/p>\n

The proposed development is located at one of Limerick’s most recognisable sites, synonymous for its 142ft red-bricked chimney stack. It was home to the famous Cleeves Condensed Milk Company, which had 3,000 employees on its payroll and sourced its raw material from 3,000 farmers across Ireland.<\/p>\n

Mayor of Limerick John Moran welcomed news of the planning application for the disused site.<\/p>\n

He said Limerick needs more anchors for enterprise and development, and “they won\u2019t come any bigger than Cleeves Riverside Quarter”.<\/p>\n

CEO of Limerick Twenty Thirty Enda Power said, “Cleeves Riverside Quarter responds directly to Limerick\u2019s growing demand for high quality housing and student accommodation, while creating a new mixed-use quarter that strengthens the economic and cultural core of the city”.<\/p>\n
