Roy Keane has revealed how much he earned during his time at Manchester United, as he allowed former team-mate Gary Neville to read out details of his contract on the latest edition of Stick To Football on The Overlap.<\/p>\n
Keane moved to United from Nottingham Forest in 1993 for what was then a British record transfer fee of \u00a33.75 million, with his status as the rising star of the Premier League securing the Irishman a big initial signing-on fee and huge rewards as he went on to become United captain.<\/p>\n
Now, a brutally honest Keane has opened up on his wages at United, with Neville holding up his contract on their YouTube show and announcing how much he was earning.<\/p>\n
“There is a contract for \u00a32.75m-a-year in 2000 to 2003,\u201d said Neville. \u201cSigning on fee for \u00a31m. Wow. So you got \u00a33.75m-a-year.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThen you\u2019ve renewed and gone to \u00a33.5m-per-annum in 2003-2005. And then they put your wages down,\u201d questioned Neville.<\/p>\n

Keane then revealed he was paid less in his final spell at United, as older players were given performance-related contracts when they get older.<\/p>\n
The contract that was displayed by Neville also revealed that Keane was paid a \u00a31m \u2018signing on fee\u2019 for 2002, 2003, 20024 and 2005 by United.<\/p>\n
Neville went on to reveal his salary during his time at United, in comments that gave viewers a candid insight into the finances that were being paid to the game\u2019s top players two decades ago.<\/p>\n
“That’s double what I was earning in my last contract,\u201d said Neville, as he compared his contract to Keane’s.<\/p>\n
“He left six years before me, I finished on \u00a32.3m in 2011.<\/p>\n
“I didn’t negotiate my contracts, I just signed them, I was not bothered. Whatever they offered me.<\/p>\n
“Whatever they offered me, I just said ‘That’s fine, I’m not bothered’. I did question it because someone told me they had been offered \u00a3250,00 and I said I should be on the same as then.”<\/p>\n
Keane brought some of his old Nottingham Forest, United and Ireland jerseys into the studio as he looked back over his career.<\/p>\n
