Now London has its third Saturday in October. In what is being called the UK’s answer to the Met Gala, the British Museum held its inaugural Pink Ball on Saturday. The institution’s fundraising gala, remarkably the first ever in its 272-year-old history, drew a flurry of fashion, entertainment, and cultural glitterati, all dressed in appropriately rosy black tie, to celebrate the museum’s “Ancient India: Living Traditions” exhibition. Naomi Campbell, Lady Kitty Spencer, Mick Jagger, Laura Carmichael, and Steve McQueen were among those who walked the pink carpet, before being greeted by the evening’s hosts: Nicholas Cullinan, the British Museum’s new-ish director, and Isha Ambani.

In homage to Indian craftsmanship and heritage, she wore a custom blush pink look by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, with pearls, sequins, and crystals intricately hand-embroidered into motifs inspired by the frescoes and tapestries of Indian palaces. More than 35 artisans spent 3,670 hours creating the jacket and skirt. “In India, pink is the color of warmth, welcome and joy.
