Liverpool supporters might raise an eyebrow at Diego Simeone\u2019s latest Champions League comments after the Atletico Madrid manager appeared to downplay our recent meeting at Anfield.<\/p>\n

Speaking after his side\u2019s 4-0 defeat to Arsenal, the Argentine coach was quick to hail the Gunners as \u201cthe best team we\u2019ve faced this season\u201d<\/strong> \u2013 despite facing us just weeks ago in a fiery European clash.<\/p>\n

The game at Anfield saw Virgil van Dijk score a dramatic stoppage-time winner in a 3-2 victory that ended with Simeone sent off for clashing with supporters.<\/p>\n

The Atletico boss later accused some fans<\/a> of \u201cinsults\u201d<\/strong> and called for Liverpool to take action.<\/p>\n

Now, after being comfortably beaten in London, the 54-year-old\u2019s glowing assessment of Arsenal has been interpreted by many as another subtle swipe at Liverpool.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I\u2019d say the best team we\u2019ve faced this team,\u201d<\/strong> Simeone told Amazon Prime (via The Express<\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u201cArsenal, they compete so well, they run and they run; there\u2019s quality all over the pitch and they deserved to win today.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Given the context of his previous confrontation on Merseyside, it\u2019s hard not to see the comments as another indirect jab.<\/p>\n

Simeone\u2019s side have endured a miserable run against English opposition \u2013 losing 3-2 at Anfield before being outclassed 4-0 at the Emirates.<\/p>\n

It also comes after a heated exchange during the Liverpool fixture, when one Atletico staff member appeared to spit towards the Main Stand crowd<\/a>, prompting a UEFA investigation.<\/p>\n
