The man on the right has sunglasses on his head. \" class=\"sc-5340b511-0 hLdNfA\"\/>RT\u00c9<\/p>\n<p>Marek Puska and Lubomir Puska Jr<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Five members of the family of Jozef Puska have been jailed for offences connected with the murder of Ashling Murphy in the Republic of Ireland. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Ms Murphy was <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-europe-67454798\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 iCaRzc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">stabbed to death by Josef Puska<\/a> while walking along the banks of a canal close to her home in Tullamore, County Offaly, in 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Puska&#8217;s wife Lucia Istokova and brothers, Marek and Lubomir Puska Jr, were convicted of withholding information from garda\u00ed (Irish police). <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Istokova has been jailed for 20 months and the brothers have been sentenced to two-and-a-half years each. The maximum sentence for this offence is five years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Jozef Puska&#8217;s sisters-in-law, Viera Gaziova and Jozefina Grundzova, were found guilty of assisting an offender by burning his clothes following Ms Murphy&#8217;s murder in January 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Gaziova has been jailed for two years, while Grundzova has been jailed for a year and nine months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">This offence carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1761138308_954_grey-placeholder.png\" class=\"sc-5340b511-0 gUePlo hide-when-no-script\" aria-label=\"image unavailable\"\/><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/6f6da920-af44-11f0-9b73-4bd88f27c330.png.webp.webp\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"RT\u00c9 Close up images of two women. She has sunglasses on her head. \" class=\"sc-5340b511-0 hLdNfA\"\/>RT\u00c9<\/p>\n<p>Jozefina Grundzova and Viera Gaziova<\/p>\n<p>Victim impact<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">In victim impact evidence, Ms Murphy&#8217;s father, Raymond, said the small comfort the family had that Puska was rotting in prison, isolated and alone would have been robbed from them, if the five members of his family had succeeded in hiding his guilt by withholding and destroying vital evidence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Ms Murphy&#8217;s sister, Amy, said her murder had ripped the family&#8217;s lives of joy, colour and meaning. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1761138308_954_grey-placeholder.png\" class=\"sc-5340b511-0 gUePlo hide-when-no-script\" aria-label=\"image unavailable\"\/><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/a8cc17b0-af44-11f0-b2a1-6f537f66f9aa.png.webp.webp\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"RT\u00c9 A woman, with long black hair, wearing a black top with white lines on it. There is a blue wall in the background. \" class=\"sc-5340b511-0 hLdNfA\"\/>RT\u00c9<\/p>\n<p>Jozef Puska&#8217;s wife Lucia Istokov<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Amy Murphy said her family felt gaslit when lawyers for the defendants recounted the family values of their clients. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">She said the court was told the family had come to Ireland seeking a better life, believing in the importance of family and education.
