{"id":139021,"date":"2025-10-22T20:21:47","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T20:21:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/139021\/"},"modified":"2025-10-22T20:21:47","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T20:21:47","slug":"bog-enhancing-digital-payments-to-boost-financial-inclusion-deputy-governor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/139021\/","title":{"rendered":"BoG enhancing digital payments to boost financial inclusion \u2013 Deputy Governor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the country\u2019s digital payments infrastructure and promoting financial inclusion through innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the MOBEX Africa Tech Expo &amp; Innovation Conference 2025 in Accra, the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Matilda Asante Asiedu, said the Bank remains focused on deepening interoperability, advancing the eCedi pilot, and fostering trust through sound regulation.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on Ghana\u2019s digital finance journey, Mrs. Asiedu Asante highlighted the country\u2019s remarkable progress over the past decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom 4.9 million mobile money users in 2015 to over 24 million today, processing transactions worth more than GHS 3 trillion in 2024, Ghana\u2019s digital transformation has been extraordinary,\u201d she noted. \u201cDigital payments have become the backbone of our financial system, connecting individuals and businesses nationwide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"gofollow\" data-track=\"MTAsMCw2MA==\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vallexlease.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazyloaded=\"1\" width=\"970\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/VL-970x250-1.png\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Asiedu Asante outlined three key priorities driving the Bank of Ghana\u2019s digital agenda:<br \/>\u2022 Strengthening instant payment infrastructure and interoperability to ensure seamless and efficient digital transactions.<br \/>\u2022 Expanding the eCedi pilot to enhance financial inclusion, including for users in offline environments.<br \/>\u2022 Deepening trust through progressive regulation that protects consumers while enabling innovation.<\/p>\n<p>She stressed that innovation and inclusion must go hand in hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTechnology should empower, not exclude,\u201d she emphasised. \u201cOur focus is to ensure that every Ghanaian, regardless of location or circumstance, benefits from the opportunities created by digital innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Governor commended MOBEX Africa for its decade-long role in advancing technology, innovation, and digital transformation across the continent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we mark ten years of MOBEX Africa, we celebrate the power of collaboration between regulators, innovators, and entrepreneurs in shaping a more inclusive digital economy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The MOBEX Africa Tech Expo &amp; Innovation Conference has evolved into one of Africa\u2019s premier platforms for dialogue on emerging technologies and digital transformation.
