{"id":139266,"date":"2025-10-22T23:01:48","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T23:01:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/139266\/"},"modified":"2025-10-22T23:01:48","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T23:01:48","slug":"surprise-social-welfare-change-happening-this-week-as-thousands-to-benefit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/139266\/","title":{"rendered":"Surprise social welfare change happening this week as thousands to benefit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thousands of people on social welfare are set for an unexpected change this week that will see some payments arrive earlier than usual ahead of the October bank holiday.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2_GettyImages-1359857257.jpg\" alt=\"A woman taking euro notes out of her purse\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>A woman taking euro notes out of her purse(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Thousands of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/social-welfare\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">social welfare recipients<\/a> across Ireland are in for a pleasant surprise this week as a number of payments are set to arrive earlier than usual ahead of the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/halloween\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">October bank holiday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">The next public holiday falls on Monday, October 27, meaning many workplaces &#8211; including banks, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/an-post\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">post offices<\/a> and Intreo centres &#8211; will all be closed for the day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Because of this, anyone who usually receives their payment on a Monday will see it land early, either on Friday, October 24 or Saturday, October 25 &#8211; giving recipients a welcome <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/cost-of-living\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">cost of living boost <\/a>before the long weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">The change will apply to a range of social welfare supports, however <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/child-benefit\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Child Benefit<\/a> will not be affected because the bank holiday falls at the end of the month, and Child Benefit is typically paid on the first Tuesday, which will be November 4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Child Benefit is a monthly payment of \u20ac140 to the parents or guardians of children under 16. You can also get <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/child-benefit\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Child Benefit<\/a> for children aged 16, 17 and 18 if they are in full-time education or full-time training, or have a disability and cannot support themselves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">The <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/social-welfare\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">social welfare payment schedule<\/a> will return to normal on Tuesday, October 28 after the bank holiday weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Here&#8217;s a reminder of the remaining bank holidays in Ireland for 2025:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"unordered-list\" publication=\"irishmirror\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Monday, October 27 &#8211; October Bank Holiday<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Thursday, December 25 &#8211; <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/christmas\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Christmas Day<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Friday, December 26 &#8211; St Stephen&#8217;s Day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">This early payment comes as part of a busy period for social welfare updates, following the Government&#8217;s recent <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/the-budget\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Budget 2026<\/a> announcements. As part of the new measures, the Christmas Bonus will once again be paid in December 2025 to around 1.5 million long-term welfare recipients, worth the full 100% of their weekly payment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">As well as this, an across-the-board \u20ac10 increase in core social welfare payments will take effect from January 2026. The Carer&#8217;s Allowance income disregard is also set to rise, while the Domiciliary Care Allowance will increase by \u20ac20, bringing it to \u20ac380 per month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"irishmirror\">Families will benefit from the extension of the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishmirror.ie\/all-about\/schools\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance<\/a>, which will now include two and three year olds, and the Fuel Allowance scheme will be expanded to cover Working Family Payment recipients.
