Stone didn\u2019t mind shaving her head, she said in an interview for Vogue<\/a>\u2019s September issue, although the experience did make her somewhat emotional.<\/p>\n Emma Stone in “Bugonia.” (Atsushi Nishijima\/Focus Features)<\/p>\n \u201cNo better feeling in the world,\u201d Stone said. The actress used a 1.5-millimeter blade to do the shave, according to Vogue. \u201cThe first shower when you\u2019ve shaved your head? Oh my God, it\u2019s amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n Stone said she knew from reading the script that shaving her head was inevitable. \u201cThere was just never going to be any other way,\u201d she said at a Bugonia screening<\/a> in New York City on Sept. 5.<\/p>\n Even though she was prepared, she told Vogue she \u201cburst into tears in her trailer\u201d before filming the scene, partially because of her mother, Krista, who was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer<\/a> in 2008.<\/p>\n \u201cShe actually did something brave,\u201d Stone told Vogue, referring to her mom. \u201cI\u2019m just shaving my head.\u201d<\/p>\n There was also a lot of pressure involved in shaving her head on camera because it all had to be captured perfectly in one take.<\/p>\n \u201cYou did have cold feet once,\u201d director Yorgos Lanthimos said to Stone at the New York City screening in September. \u201cRight before.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a year and a half I knew that I was going to be shaving my head, and then the day of \u2014 they were setting up four cameras, because we had to get it in one shot,\u201d Stone said at the screening. \u201cIt was taking a long time to set all the cameras up, and I just started kind of panicking about that.\u201d<\/p>\n Plemons told Vogue he was also anxious about filming the scene in one take.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was like, \u2018Here we go \u2014 Emily has shaved her head,\u2019\u201d Plemons said, referring to Stone by her given name. \u201cWe better make this good!\u201d<\/p>\n Stone also wanted to make sure her 4-year-old daughter, Louise Jean, was \u201cvery ready\u201d to see her mother bald, USA Today<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not super-scary. It\u2019s just such a major transformation,\u201d Stone said, according to USA Today. \u201cI just said, \u2018I\u2019m going to shave my head. I\u2019m going to take my hair off and it\u2019s going to grow back. Isn\u2019t that so silly and fun? We can do whatever we want with our hair, it can change all the time!\u2019 She\u2019s like, \u2018OK,\u2019 and then it was totally cool.\u201d<\/p>\n After the scene was filmed, Stone told Vogue that Krista, who has been cancer-free for 12 years, said she was \u201cjealous\u201d of the look and wanted to shave her head again.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m shaving my head because I get to do what I love, and my mom was there with me, and I was like, \u2018What a gift! It\u2019s hair,\u2019\u201d Stone said at the screening. \u201cIt was actually one of the greatest experiences of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n Stone joins a number of actresses who have shaved their heads<\/a> for roles, including Florence Pugh for We Live in Time, Natalie Portman for V for Vendetta, Charlize Theron for Mad Max: Fury Road and Demi Moore for G.I. That\u2019s the easiest thing ever; you just take the razor and poof,\u201d Stone said. \u201cIt\u2019s, like, so much easier than any hairstyle.\u201d<\/p>\n Instead, it was the fighting training and the workout class that Stone said were the most challenging parts of preparing for the role.
