A GAA club in Tipperary has lodged an official complaint with the County Board following a recent underage county final, raising strong concerns about the standard of refereeing and the process by which the match official was appointed.<\/p>\n
In a detailed letter sent to County Board officials, the club expressed “deep disappointment at aspects of the officiating”, saying what should have been a “celebration of young talent and months of hard work was instead overshadowed by the handling of the game”.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It is understood that the correspondence outlined several issues relating to the referee\u2019s performance, including questions about “decision-making, consistency, and overall match management”. The letter also queried the procedures used to appoint referees for major underage fixtures.<\/p>\n
The club\u2019s submission has called for a review of the referee appointment system and for greater transparency and accountability in how officials are selected for county finals. <\/p>\n
It also urged the board to examine the broader issue of officiating standards at underage level.<\/p>\n
While acknowledging that referees are bound to make mistakes, the club contends that the situation in this case went beyond “normal human error”. <\/p>\n
The letter stated that the “credibility of the fixture was damaged and that lessons need to be learned to protect the fairness and integrity of future competitions”.<\/p>\n
The correspondence concluded by requesting a “full investigation into both the conduct of the match official and the process that led to the appointment”.<\/p>\n
It is not known whether or not the County Board will undertake any action after receiving the correspondence. They have been contacted for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
