{"id":140197,"date":"2025-10-23T09:20:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T09:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/140197\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T09:20:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T09:20:16","slug":"severe-wind-weather-warning-issued-for-channel-islands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/140197\/","title":{"rendered":"Severe wind weather warning issued for Channel Islands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">A weather warning for severe gale force winds has been issued for the Channel Islands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The Jersey Met Office said on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Jersey_MetCI\/status\/1980919988136673382\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 iCaRzc\" rel=\"nofollow\">X<\/a> southeast winds of force seven were expected soon, veering west to southwest, with gusts reaching up to 65 knots from Thursday morning across the Channel Islands shipping area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The weather office predicted Jersey and Guernsey could have gusts of 60mph (96.5km\/h) on Thursday morning overland, with conditions described as &#8220;rather cloudy with blustery showers and some sunny spells possible&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The warning was issued shortly after <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/weather\/articles\/c1d043xek30o\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 iCaRzc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Storm Benjamin was named by M\u00e9t\u00e9o France<\/a>, with the most severe conditions expected to affect France, Belgium and the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Forecasters predicted wind gusts would go down to 55mph (88.5km\/h) from Thursday afternoon with sunny spells and &#8220;the odd blustery shower&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">They said conditions should start to clear with some showers and gusts of 45mph (72.4km\/h).<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">In its wind warning, Jersey Met Office said people should avoid outside activities and follow the advice issued by the authorities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">&#8220;Winds are ramping up from light to (possibly) severe gale force over the next 15 hours,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">&#8220;Although we&#8217;re not likely to see those strengths over the land, now is a good time to secure anything loose in your garden.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">The Government of Jersey said the strongest winds on land were likely to happen during the early hours, but gusts would remain breezy and potentially gale force throughout Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">&#8220;There is a risk of tree damage or debris on the roads on Thursday morning, so please drive with caution,&#8221; a government spokesperson added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">Guernsey Harbours advised boat owners to make sure vessels were secured before the gusts hit the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 eZyhnA\">It said the worst of the weather was expected to pass by the evening, but conditions could remain windy going into the weekend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A weather warning for severe gale force winds has been issued for the Channel Islands.
