{"id":140854,"date":"2025-10-23T15:58:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T15:58:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/140854\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T15:58:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T15:58:08","slug":"cargo-door-issue-forces-plane-to-return-to-shannon-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/140854\/","title":{"rendered":"Cargo door issue forces plane to return to Shannon Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <strong>cargo aircraft<\/strong> was forced to return to Shannon Airport on Thursday morning after the crew declared an emergency, reporting a <strong>technical issue<\/strong> off the Irish Coast.<\/p>\n<p>The Star Air Boeing 767-219 cargo jet, operating as flight SRR-9232, left Shannon at around 10:15am en route to Cologne in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>It is understood that the aircraft had been in Shannon for maintenance and was positioning to Cologne at the time. There were two crew members on board.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after the flight had crossed the Wexford coast, the crew issued a Pan-pan radio call. A \u2018Pan-pan\u2019 indicates an \u2018urgency\u2019 on board but is not as serious as a \u2018May-day\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The flight had reached its cruising altitude of 35,000 feet over St George\u2019s Channel, northwest of Fishguard in Wales when the crew made a U-turn.<\/p>\n<p>The flight crew reported they had received a cockpit indication that alerted them to a possible issue with the aircraft\u2019s main cargo door.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"not-prose no-underline\" data-action=\"click\" data-category=\"Read more article clicked\" data-label=\"https:\/\/www.breakingnews.ie\/ireland\/man-30s-charged-in-connection-with-armed-robbery-of-a-pharmacy-in-co-offaly-1822423.html\" data-value=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breakingnews.ie\/ireland\/man-30s-charged-in-connection-with-armed-robbery-of-a-pharmacy-in-co-offaly-1822423.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4363793-3-articlelarge-denis-20stock-20153-1-1.jpg\" class=\"rounded-sm object-contain bg-transparent z-10 w-full h-full not-prose\" alt=\"Man (30S) Charged In Connection With Armed Robbery Of A Pharmacy In Co Offaly\" width=\"278\" height=\"156\" \/><\/p>\n<p>        Ireland<\/p>\n<p>Man (30s) charged in connection with armed robbery of a pharmacy in Co Offaly<\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The crew told air traffic controllers that the alarm indicated the cargo door was \u2018unsafe.\u2019 The flight was cleared to turn around and descend to 9,000 feet.<\/p>\n<p>At Shannon, the airport\u2019s Fire and Rescue Service was alerted and crews were mobilised to holding points along the runway head of the jet\u2019s arrival.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly before landing, the flight crew cancelled their Pan-pan message and confirm that all operations were &#8216;normal&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The flight landed safely at 11:09am and was followed down the runway by airport fire crews.
