2017 All-Ireland winner Jason Flynn has called a halt to his inter-county career after 12 years in the Galway jersey.<\/p>\n
The Tommy Larkins attacker, who turns 31 next month, said in a statement released by his club that it had “been a dream come true to wear the maroon and white” and said he’d been “lucky to share a dressing room with incredible players and work with great people and management teams over the years.”<\/p>\n
A member of Galway’s 2011 All-Ireland minor winning side, Flynn made his debut during the 2014 season, breaking into the championship starting team for that campaign.<\/p>\n
Flynn was nominated for Young Hurler of the Year in his second season with the Galway hurlers in 2015.<\/p>\n
He started at corner forward in that year’s All-Ireland decider, scoring four points, however their challenge fizzled out badly in the second half against Brian Cody’s Kilkenny.<\/p>\n
The highlight of Flynn’s career when Galway defeated Waterford in the 2017 All-Ireland final to claim a first All-Ireland title in 29 years.<\/p>\n
Flynn was sprung from the bench in the second half, hitting 0-02 from play in the closing quarter as Miche\u00e1l Donoghue’s side sealed an emotional triumph by three points.<\/p>\n
Earlier that season, he had scored 2-01 in the Allianz Hurling League final, as Galway massacred reigning All-Ireland champions Tipperary, the strongest warning of what has to come later in the year.<\/p>\n
Flynn won his second Leinster title on the trot in 2018 as Galway beat Kilkenny in a replay, and featured as a late subsitute in the subsequent All-Ireland final, though the westerners were pipped by Limerick to prevent the two-in-a-row.<\/p>\n
