{"id":141775,"date":"2025-10-24T02:04:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T02:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/141775\/"},"modified":"2025-10-24T02:04:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T02:04:09","slug":"chita-rivera-was-originally-set-to-appear-in-kiss-of-the-spider-woman-movie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/141775\/","title":{"rendered":"Chita Rivera Was Originally Set to Appear in KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN Movie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Before her passing in 2024,\u00a0Broadway legend <a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/Chita-Rivera\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Chita Rivera<\/a> was originally attached to appear in the film adaptation of Kiss of the Spider Woman, which hit theaters earlier this month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s a role that was written for Chita in the movie, and Chita knew about it and she was going to do it,&#8221;\u00a0producer <a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/Tom-Kirdahy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tom Kirdahy<\/a> shared in an interview on the <a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/marksvincentelli.substack.com\/p\/is-the-broadway-musical-ok-we-ask\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Marks &amp; Vincenteli podcast<\/a>.\u00a0The Broadway legend would have played Clemencia, a village woman who appears in the movie within the movie, as told by the character of Molina.<\/p>\n<p>Rivera, who originated the roles of Ingrid <a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/Luna\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Luna<\/a>, Aurora, and the Spider Woman in the Broadway production, passed away in January of 2024, only a couple of months before filming began. Because of this, the part instead went to Broadway choreographer <a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/Graciela-Daniele\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Graciela Daniele<\/a>, Rivera&#8217;s longtime friend with whom she had worked in shows like Chicago and The Visit.<\/p>\n<p>Kirdahy shared that he, director <a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/Bill-Condon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bill Condon<\/a>, and composer <a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/John-Kander\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">John Kander<\/a> were all in agreement that Daniele\u00a0should take on the role. In a full circle moment, Kirdahy asked her to play the part after she sat behind him at Rivera&#8217;s funeral. &#8220;That role was cast at Chita&#8217;s funeral&#8230; We were howling, which Chita would have loved,&#8221; the producer recalled.<\/p>\n<p>In her career as a director\/choreographer,\u00a0<a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/Graciela-Daniele\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Graciela Daniele<\/a> has earned 10 Tony Award nominations and six Drama Desk nominations. Credits include <a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/Chita-Rivera\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Chita Rivera<\/a>: The Dancer\u2019s Life, Annie Get Your Gun, Marie Christine, Once on This Island, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, and Dangerous Game, and many more. Most recently, she choreographed The Visit on Broadway.\u00a0In 2021, Ms. Daniele was the recipient of a Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/Bill-Condon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bill Condon<\/a>\u2019s new adaptation is based on the acclaimed 1976 novel\u00a0Kiss of the Spider Woman\u00a0by Argentinian writer <a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/Manuel-Puig\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Manuel Puig<\/a> and the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical of the same name by the multiple Tony Award-winning playwright <a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/Terrence-McNally\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Terrence McNally<\/a> (Master Class, Ragtime) and composer\/lyricist team <a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/John-Kander\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">John Kander<\/a> and <a target=\"newwinddow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/Fred-Ebb\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fred Ebb<\/a> (Cabaret, Chicago).\u00a0The original musical debuted on Broadway in 1993, going on to win seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.
