Known worldwide as Sheldon Cooper, the genius physicist with zero social skills, the actor recently opened up about those early, uncertain days on the hit sitcom and why one big setback actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise.<\/p>\n<p>The 52-year-old actor, who led the show for 12 successful seasons, spoke to \u2018Us Weekly\u2019 about how deeply the series remains a part of him. \u201cI remember our first season,\u201d he said, \u201cafter about seven or eight episodes, the writers went on strike and they told us we were going to go off. We wouldn\u2019t be doing any more until it was over. It was something more emotional. Parsons explained that the young cast already believed they were part of something special.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were really enjoying the show,\u201d he said. \u201cIt scared us because we thought that it could mean an early end to the series.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As it turned out, that pause was the best thing that could have happened. \u201cIt ended up working very much in our favour,\u201d Parsons said. \u201cMore people got to watch us in reruns, and when we came back, it became a bigger thing. Viewers discovered it through reruns, and the unique mix of science, humour, and heartfelt moments quickly turned it into one of television\u2019s most beloved comedies. \u201cAll of us knew in our hearts that we were part of something special,\u201d Parsons recalled. \u201cBut the way this business works, sometimes even great things derail. We were very fortunate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, \u201cThe Big Bang Theory\u201d became a cultural phenomenon. The lives of its quirky geniuses and their friends in Pasadena connected deeply with millions across the world.
