It might sound like something from a fairy tale, but this mythical-looking creature is in fact very real.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/animals\/article\/rare-white-moose-sweden-video-spd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">experts<\/a>, the ghost-like coat is not caused by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/albino-wild-animals\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">albinism<\/a>, but instead a recessive gene \u2013 a genetic mutation that affects <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/mammals\/moose-elk-difference\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">moose<\/a> along with various other animals including birds and reptiles.<\/p>\n<p>Estimates suggest there may be around 100 of these white moose \u2013 or elk, as they are often called in Europe \u2013 living across Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>Here, footage shows a rare &#8216;ghost moose&#8217; wandering through the forests of V\u00e4rmland in south-west Sweden. <\/p>\n<p><video controls=\"\" poster=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2025\/10\/White-moose-in-forest.jpg\" preload=\"none\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/62\/2025\/10\/Moose-with-Leucism-filmed-in-Sweden.mp4\"\/>Rare footage shows the white moose in the V\u00e4rmland region of Sweden.
