{"id":142837,"date":"2025-10-24T13:49:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T13:49:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/142837\/"},"modified":"2025-10-24T13:49:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T13:49:13","slug":"group-vivendi-africa-to-expand-to-ghana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/142837\/","title":{"rendered":"Group Vivendi Africa to expand to Ghana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\">Group Vivendi Africa (GVA), the high-speed fiber optic Internet provider owned by French conglomerate Vivendi which owns the CanalBox brand, has announced plans to launch operations in Ghana, beginning with Accra and Kumasi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\">A delegation led by GVA CEO Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Dubois met with Ghana&#8217;s Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, to discuss the initiative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\">George welcomed GVA&#8217;s plans to commercial launch high-speed fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) Internet services in Ghana, describing the proposed tariff as\u00a0&#8220;revolutionary&#8221;\u00a0and in line with the government&#8217;s commitment to expanding affordable digital access.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\">He pledged to engage the Minister for Energy and Electricity Company of Ghana&#8217;s (ECG) management to help resolve the impasse over infrastructure access.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\">&#8220;I&#8217;m fully committed to initiatives that lower data costs and expand fiber connectivity across Ghana. If this offering delivers what you&#8217;ve described, high-speed, unlimited Internet at competitive rates, I&#8217;ll personally champion its rollout,&#8221; George stressed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\">The Minister encouraged GVA to submit a formal proposal outlining its service plan, investment model and the specific bottlenecks requiring ministerial intervention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\">He also suggested collaboration between GVA and Canal+ to bundle broadband access with premium content streaming, which could transform Ghana&#8217;s pay-TV and Internet landscape.<\/p>\n<p data-component=\"related-article\" class=\"RelatedArticle\">Related:<a class=\"RelatedArticle-RelatedContent\" href=\"https:\/\/www.connectingafrica.com\/enterprise-networking\/canal-takes-control-of-multichoice-prepares-jse-listing\" target=\"_self\" data-discover=\"true\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Canal+ takes control of MultiChoice, prepares JSE listing<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\">Dubois outlined GVA&#8217;s vision, saying that the company aims to deliver affordable, unlimited broadband connectivity to Ghanaian households.<\/p>\n<p>GVA spreads its African wings<\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\">Dubois added that the company was a subsidiary of the Canal+ Group and currently operating in nine African countries. It intends to replicate its mass-market fiber model in Ghana, starting with Accra and Kumasi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\">Benin is GVA&#8217;s most recent new market, with CanalBox launching in Cotonou on April 30, 2025, and expanding into Abomey-Calavi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ContentParagraph ContentParagraph_align_left\" data-testid=\"content-paragraph\">GVA launched services in Kampala, Uganda, in July 2024, adding to its presence across Burkina Faso, the DRC, Rwanda, Congo, C\u00f4te d&#8217;Ivoire, Togo and Gabon.
