Staff at two Dunnes Stores<\/a> grocery store locations in Dublin<\/a> have been told their shops will close this month.<\/p>\n

The news comes a week after staff at the Dunnes Stores grocery outlet on West Street in Drogheda were told the shop will shut its doors for the last time at the end of the month, after 50 years in business.<\/p>\n

One of the Dublin stores affected will be the smaller grocery shop in Cornelscourt village, which will close this weekend. The larger store in the Cornelscourt Shopping Centre on the Bray Road is not expected to be affected.<\/p>\n

The other location that will be affected is one of Dunnes Stores\u2019 locations in the Ilac Centre in the city centre. The Irish Times understands the store will not close, instead the grocery portion will be shuttered on October 31st.<\/p>\n

Staff at the two affected stores were notified they would be relocated to other Dunnes Stores outlets.<\/p>\n

As many as 27 staff are to be affected when the store on West Street in Drogheda closes.<\/p>\n

Most of the staff at the West Street store have up to 20 years\u2019 service and were said to be \u201cshocked and disappointed\u201d with the news they received from management this past week.<\/p>\n

Similarly to the Dublin locations, staff believe they will be redeployed to nearby stores in Louth. It is understood that trade union Mandate is in talks with its staff at the affected locations. <\/p>\n

Dunnes Stores and the Ilac Centre have been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n

The closures come after accounts filed by the the Northern Irish arm of Dunnes Stores<\/a> in September reveal the retail chain enjoyed a 44 per cent bounce in profits<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n

Dunnes Stores (Bangor) made a profit of \u00a314.1 million (\u20ac16 million) in the year to the end of December, which was up from \u00a39.8 million in 2023. The performance represents further growth in the company\u2019s bottom line, with profits up from \u00a32.6 million in 2022.<\/p>\n
