{"id":143290,"date":"2025-10-24T18:51:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T18:51:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/143290\/"},"modified":"2025-10-24T18:51:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T18:51:14","slug":"behind-the-scenes-with-the-photographer-who-puts-global-super-homes-in-the-picture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/143290\/","title":{"rendered":"Behind the scenes with the photographer who puts global super-homes in the picture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As an award-winning photographer, Jessica Klewicki Glynn has an eye for what works visually.<\/p>\n<p>So Jessica and her husband, Gerard, a builder and carpenter, made an enviably creative duo when renovating their home, at Kilmovee, Co Mayo (\u201cnear Knock Airport\u201d, as Jessica puts it) \u2014 particularly her favourite room, the kitchen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cBeing a photographer did help me lay it out in a way that would look and photograph the best,\u201d she says. \u201cMy husband did 90% of the work on the house. He was doing million-dollar renovations in Palm Beach condos and runs his own company, Glynn Builders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Jessica, meanwhile, puts living spaces in the picture. \u201cI love shooting residential homes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8220;I love getting to see how people live day-to-day in spaces that have been created to be their dream home,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4832670_9_articleinline_holdenresidence_jg_5310_ret_1_.jpg\" alt=\"Interiors in the Holden residence photographed by Jessica Glynn in 'House Love'.\u00a0\" title=\"Interiors in the Holden residence photographed by Jessica Glynn in 'House Love'.\u00a0\" class=\"card-img\"\/>Interiors in the Holden residence photographed by Jessica Glynn in &#8216;House Love&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">If you&#8217;re a connoisseur of glossy interiors spreads, you\u2019ve most likely seen some of her oeuvre, which has appeared in  Architectural Digest,  Milieu,  Galerie,  House &amp; Home,  Traditional Home, and  Coastal Living.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Jessica&#8217;s books include Vendome\u2019s Beachside and Palm Beach Chic, while\u00a0House Love: Moor Baker Architects, with text by Chris Baker and photography by Jessica, is the photographer\u2019s latest publication.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4832673_9_articleinline_2165thomasct8202_1_.jpg\" alt=\"Interiors featuring in 'House Love'.\u00a0\" title=\"Interiors featuring in 'House Love'.\u00a0\" class=\"card-img\"\/>Interiors featuring in &#8216;House Love&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It invites us to step into the light-filled and airy homes of the Florida-based practice Moor Baker Architects. \u201cI have photographed multimillion-dollar homes in Palm Beach and the Caribbean. I have also photographed small renovated horse stables in Dublin,\u201d she says. \u201cThe range of variation I see in people\u2019s homes is the most interesting aspect of my work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4832676_9_articleinline_walter_jg14255_1_.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"card-img\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Does she and her family draw up itineraries for those international photoshoots at her perch of preference, at the kitchen island in the West of Ireland? \u201cWe definitely sit down at the island to plan our work, travels and future ventures,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4832679_9_articleinline_glynnfarms_jg_3040_dog_1_.jpg\" alt=\"Jessica Glynn's dog Charlie photographed in her kitchen.\" title=\"Jessica Glynn's dog Charlie photographed in her kitchen.\" class=\"card-img\"\/>Jessica Glynn&#8217;s dog Charlie photographed in her kitchen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Jessica describes the style of her home as \u201cfarmhouse modern\u201d. \u201cIt is a new build that I believe was started in 2006, which was never finished by the previous owner. It was half-finished and never lived in. We then purchased it at auction in 2019,\u201d she says. \u201cWe started working on our home renovation in 2021.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4832682_9_articleinline_JessicaGlynn-48_1_.jpg\" alt=\"Photographer Jessica Glynn.\" title=\"Photographer Jessica Glynn.\" class=\"card-img\"\/>Photographer Jessica Glynn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cThe inside was unfinished cinder block. So we were able to move walls, add a loft space and make our own layout. We finished the renovation in 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Originally from Old Westbury, New York, Jessica relocated from Florida with her husband and their daughter, Keira, now 16, to Gerard\u2019s native Kiltimagh in 2021. \u201cWe wanted our daughter to experience life in Ireland. She was 11 when we moved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4832685_9_articleinline_616oceanrd1446_1_.jpg\" alt=\"High-end interiors in 'House Love'.\" title=\"High-end interiors in 'House Love'.\" class=\"card-img\"\/>High-end interiors in &#8216;House Love&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Jessica was in a similar age bracket when, as a teenage schoolgirl in Long Island, she envisioned her own future. \u201cI fell in love with photography when I was 14. I developed my first print in the darkroom of my high school, and I was hooked,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">She went on to obtain a bachelor\u2019s degree in journalism at Boston University, then a master\u2019s degree in photographic journalism at London\u2019s Westminster City University. \u201cI met my husband in Boston, during my last year of college \u2014 we\u2019ve been together since,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4832688_9_articleinline_gochmanpb_jg15926_1_.jpg\" alt=\"A living space in 'House Love'.\u00a0\" title=\"A living space in 'House Love'.\u00a0\" class=\"card-img\"\/>A living space in &#8216;House Love&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Her travels sharpened her eye for architecture and interior design. \u201cWhile I was living in London, I started photographing architecture,\u201d she says. Working with media companies and on busy news desks, and a stint with a backpacking magazine in Sydney, as well as travels in New Zealand, all helped set the scene for her current role.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4832691_9_articleinline_haines_jg_5663_1_.jpg\" alt=\"A photograph in 'House Love'.\u00a0\" title=\"A photograph in 'House Love'.\u00a0\" class=\"card-img\"\/>A photograph in &#8216;House Love&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Jessica and Gerard returned to live in the US in 2005. \u201cWe moved to Florida, where my parents are now living,\u201d she says. This led to shoots for local builders and realtors. \u201cAs I honed my skills, I started getting work from interior designers and architects,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Global movers and shakers swiftly took note. \u201cMany of the homes I have photographed are for Fortune 500 CEOs, celebrities and everyday people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4832694_9_articleinline_gochmanwellington5910_1_.jpg\" alt=\"Colour in 'House Love'.\u00a0\" title=\"Colour in 'House Love'.\u00a0\" class=\"card-img\"\/>Colour in &#8216;House Love&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">But for Jessica, an only child, who travels to the US up to three times a year for work and to visit Mom and Dad, it\u2019s the spaces like the kitchen that count. \u201cMany residences feature the kitchen as the heart of the home,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI think I like those best because it usually means the homeowners like to cook. My mother is Italian-American and my father Polish-American, so most good memories centre around delicious home-cooked meals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4832697_9_articleinline_2165thomasct7687_1_.jpg\" alt=\"The kitchen in 'House Love' that Jessica loves.\u00a0\" title=\"The kitchen in 'House Love' that Jessica loves.\u00a0\" class=\"card-img\"\/>The kitchen in &#8216;House Love&#8217; that Jessica loves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\n             House Love features a kitchen that appeals to Jessica because it reminded her so much of her own when she photographed it. \u201cI adore the kitchen in the chapter entitled Windsor Symmetry,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cIt is strikingly beautiful yet understated. We built the custom range hood over the cooktop to have the same style. The top fades back into the wall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Jessica and Gerard \u201cstyled everything around\u201d their range hood: \u201cMy husband built the island and range hood. Picture: Jessica Glynn<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">\u201cOur kitchen works very well. We are able to entertain and cook at the same time. It\u2019s just the three of us, our daughter, and our [female] golden retriever, Charli, five.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">&#8220;I have a bookshelf built into the island for cookbooks, and I have a secret cook\u2019s stool area. Dowsing and Reynolds supplied the hardware, Carlow Paint supplied Tikkurila Paint, and the stools are from a furniture maker named Dan Bursztyn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Across the Atlantic, over the past 30 years, Peter Moor, Mary Juckiewicz, and Chris Baker \u2014 the principals of Moor Baker Architects\u00a0\u2014 have built a reputation for creating timeless houses that prioritise clients\u2019 preferences, climate considerations, and site-specific issues. They describe their practice as an \u201ceverything matters\u201d firm, down to the doorknobs and hinges.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4832703_9_articleinline_holdenresidence_jg_5203_1_.jpg\" alt=\"The Holden residence, featured in House Love.\u00a0\" title=\"The Holden residence, featured in House Love.\u00a0\" class=\"card-img\"\/>The Holden residence, featured in House Love.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Peter and his wife, Mary, also an architect, relocated to Vero Beach, Florida in 1991, and founded Moor &amp; Associates. All three architects are \u201cnow good friends\u201d of Jessica\u2019s, she adds: \u201cThis makes the book even sweeter. There are good memories of styling, having work lunches and dinners &#8230;sleepovers &#8230;while documenting beautiful architecture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu Body Body\">Who else would Jessica love to invite over for a chat in her light-drenched Mayo kitchen haven? \u201cMy dream coffee buddy would be Francois Halard, the highly accomplished French architectural photographer,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"As an award-winning photographer, Jessica Klewicki Glynn has an eye for what works visually.
