The missing persons search appeal was stood down on Thursday evening\"MartinMartin Ward<\/p>\n

The search for a man missing from Co Galway<\/a> for nearly weeks has been stood down following the discovery of a body, gardai<\/a> have confirmed.<\/p>\n

Martin Ward, 48, had been missing from Tuam since Monday, October 6.<\/p>\n

Gardai <\/a>launched a public appeal <\/a>shortly after his disappearance, describing Martin as approximately 6’3″ with a big build.<\/p>\n

They added that both gardai and Ray’s family were “concerned for his wellbeing”.<\/p>\n

Last week, Gardai<\/a> renewed their appeal in the hopes that a member of the public could help them locate the missing 48-year-old.<\/p>\n

The local community in Tuam came together to organise a major search for Martin<\/a>, with his loved ones saying at the time that they were \u201cextremely concerned and just want to know that he\u2019s safe\u201d.<\/p>\n

In a sad update on Thursday, gardai confirmed that the missing persons appeal<\/a> has been stood down following the discovery of a man’s body as they thanked the public for their help.<\/p>\n

A Garda spokesperson said: “Following the discovery of a man\u2019s body, the missing person appeal for Martin Ward (48), who was reported missing from Tuam, Co. Galway since Monday 6th October 2025 has been stood down.<\/p>\n

“Garda\u00ed would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance.”<\/p>\n

Tributes have been paid to Martin following the sad news of his death, with Bru Bhr\u00edde, a hub for community development in Tuam, writing in a post shared on Facebook: “We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Martin Ward. Our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies go out to Martin\u2019s family and friends at this devastating time.<\/p>\n

“Words cannot express how truly sorry we are for their loss. The entire community stands with them in grief and in love.<\/p>\n

“We would also like to acknowledge the extraordinary kindness and effort shown by all the volunteers, the Tuam Garda\u00ed, and everyone who gave their time and support over the past weeks. The compassion shown reflects the very best of our town and its people.<\/p>\n

“May Martin\u2019s gentle soul rest in peace, and may his family find comfort in the love surrounding them.”<\/p>\n
