{"id":143952,"date":"2025-10-25T03:25:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-25T03:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/143952\/"},"modified":"2025-10-25T03:25:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T03:25:10","slug":"women-canvassing-for-catherine-connolly-allegedly-assaulted-in-dublin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/143952\/","title":{"rendered":"Women canvassing for Catherine Connolly allegedly assaulted in Dublin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two <strong>women<\/strong> who were <strong>canvassing<\/strong> in support of <strong>Catherine Connolly<\/strong> in north Dublin have <strong>allegedly been assaulted<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The incident occurred as Sinn F\u00e9in leader Mary Lou McDonald joined the canvass, a party spokesman said.<\/p>\n<p>A video posted online shows a man approaching a canvass team for Ms Connolly and shouting threats to \u201cdeck\u201d and \u201cslap\u201d some of them.<\/p>\n<p>It was reported to garda\u00ed that two females were assaulted on North Strand Road in Dublin shortly before 4pm on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They did not require medical treatment at the scene but gardai said they understand one of the females has since attended the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital for further assessment.<\/p>\n<p>They have appealed to anyone with camera footage of the incident to provide it to garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for Sinn F\u00e9in said: \u201cA man assaulted a young woman who was part of a team getting out the vote near the Five Lamps in the north inner city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe garda\u00ed were called and are now investigating the matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe woman has been brought to hospital for medical examination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis happened as Mary Lou McDonald joined the canvass team, which is now continuing with its work of getting the vote out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na has appealed to anyone with information or camera footage in relation to the incident to contact Store Street Garda station on 01 666 8000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Two women who were canvassing in support of Catherine Connolly in north Dublin have allegedly been assaulted.
