Westlife celebrated “one of the best weeks ever” for the Irish boyband on Friday night’s Late Late Show, saying it “feels like we’re back in 1999 again”.<\/p>\n

After announcing a record-breaking 13 night run at Dublin’s 3Arena<\/a>, band members Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne and Kian Egan appeared on the RT\u00c9 One chatshow alongside host Patrick Kielty to reflect on their 25th anniversary celebrations.<\/p>\n

“This is one of the best weeks ever in Westlife, it really is. It it feels like we’re back in 1999 again. It’s just crazy the reaction these gigs have got, this song has got.” Filan said of their gig announcements and new single Chariot.<\/p>\n

“It’s blown us all away,” Byrne continued. “I think what’s happened is, years ago, we created something, and we ran with it and everybody gave us so much support.<\/p>\n

“People are looking to have that big night out. It’s phenomenal.”<\/p>\n

Egan said the band were “genuinely nervous about putting five gigs on” at Dublin’s 3Arena but added that they’re “super excited about it” now and that they’re “going to stop at 13, we made that official decision”.<\/p>\n

“The difference with this show for us is, the last concerts that we played in Ireland [were stadiums] – Croke Park, the Aviva, P\u00e1irc U\u00ed Chaoimh… when we played the 3Arena a few years ago at Christmas, the vibe was just so different and we came away thinking that’s what we want to do again,” he continued.<\/p>\n

“We want to feel that intimacy. The shape of the arena – you can actually see everybody’s eyes in that audience.<\/p>\n

“To have that experience with our fans after 25 years, that’s what we want. We wanted to come home and start it here in Dublin, it’s just really exciting.”<\/p>\n

The band, who delighted the audience with a performance of their new single Chariot, also addressed Mark Feehily’s absence from the forthcoming world tour.<\/p>\n

The fourth Westlife member announced last year that he would be stepping back from the band<\/a> due to ongoing health issues.<\/p>\n

“He’s fine – unfortunately he’s not able to join us, which is obviously sad,” Filan said. “It’s a tough decision for him to make but we have to respect that.<\/p>\n

“He is on the new music, he’s on all the songs on the album, which is great, that is the most important thing for us.”<\/p>\n

“But we’ve got to keep it going. It’s the 25th anniversary and he wishes us well. We can’t wait to have him back as soon as possible,” Filan added to cheers from the audience.<\/p>\n

Kielty gave the group a Late Late Legends Award before they took to the stage to perform a medley of their greatest hits alongside the Discovery Gospel Choir.<\/p>\n
