I realised I only remember abuse. My friends, they could remember things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started with asking questions because I just could not believe there was nothing else in the story of what happened to me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started asking my parents about everything. What are your blood groups? Is there anything else happened to me you don\u2019t tell me about?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wandelt\u2019s barrister Tom Price KC asked her if she still questions her identity.<\/p>\n<p>She replied: \u201cYes, I do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wandelt told the court she had some memories starting at age eight or nine and said her parents had a different appearance from her, with dark hair and eyes.<\/p>\n<p>She said she asked her parents for a DNA test many times but they refused, adding: \u201cIt made me feel a bit surprised because I didn\u2019t expect them to refuse, especially because at that time I still dealt with a lot of emotional problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wandelt told the court she self-harmed and attempted suicide after she was abused as a child by her step-grandfather.<\/p>\n<p>She said there had been criminal proceedings against him, adding: \u201cI was told at the end he admitted his guilt but my grandmother still did not believe me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wandelt told the court a sketch of a suspect in the Madeleine case looked \u201cquite similar to the person who abused me\u201d and had the same surname, which she said was a \u201cbig factor\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She added that she has a similar mark on her eye to Madeleine.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"427\" width=\"640\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/img.resized.co\/breaking-news\/eyJkYXRhIjoie1widXJsXCI6XCJodHRwczpcXFwvXFxcL2ltYWdlLmFzc2V0cy5wcmVzc2Fzc29jaWF0aW9uLmlvXFxcL3YyXFxcL2ltYWdlXFxcL3Byb2R1Y3Rpb25cXFwvMzM5NDUzZTU1M2FkYzVkZWNiZDg1MjliMWNkMmE1NGZZMjl1ZEdWdWRITmxZWEpqYUdGd2FTd3hOell4TmpZME9UVXdcXFwvMi44MTkwNDU2OC5qcGc_dz02NDBcIixcIndpZHRoXCI6XCI2NDBcIixcImhlaWdodFwiOlwiNDI3XCIsXCJkZWZhdWx0XCI6XCJodHRwczpcXFwvXFxcL3d3dy5icmVha2luZ25ld3MuaWVcXFwvaVxcXC9ibi1ub2ltYWdlLnBuZ1wiLFwib3B0aW9uc1wiOntcIm91dHB1dFwiOlwiYXZpZlwiLFwicXVhbGl0eVwiOlwiNTVcIn19IiwiaGFzaCI6IjdlYmEwNWRmYWU4Mzg3MWY1Mzg5YTg0YzNmMTkwNGE1M2M3NGY2MWYifQ==\/alleged-mccann-stalker-tells-court-she-still-questions-her-identity-after-abuse.jpg?w=640\" alt=\"Karen Spragg\" data-title=\"Madeleine McCann stalker court case\" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Wire\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Wire\/PA Images\" data-credit=\"Joe Giddens\" data-usage-terms=\"\"\/>Karen Spragg went to the McCanns\u2019 home with Wandelt, the court heard (Joe Giddens\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>Wandelt said she was in hospital in the summer of 2022 when she spoke to her father, who told her the man who abused her had \u201cbeen involved in kidnapping\u201d so she searched databases for missing people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid you find anyone who matched you?\u201d Mr Price asked.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cThere were not actually a lot of people my age or around my age, but that is how I found Madeleine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Questioned whether she claimed to be Madeleine for attention or financial gain, Wandelt said: \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She told the court she did not know how big the Madeleine McCann story was before she read about the case.<\/p>\n<p>Asked by Mr Price what her motivation was, Wandelt replied: \u201cI just wanted to find out who I am.
