OPPO updates their midrange offering at the start of the year with the formal arrival of the OPPO Reno14 5G \u2013 another travel companion that will work as hard as you party. This new series brings back all the things we loved from the OPPO Reno13 5G<\/a> and tweaks it a bit further to show off a more polished offering.<\/p>\n

While design-wise and overall features remain somewhat similar, the Reno14 Series 5G does beef up some of the phone\u2019s hardware and puts some of the features a bit more front-and-center, like its ability to shoot 4K Underwater Videos this time around.<\/p>\n

Given these new upgrades, does it warrant an entirely new series? Sit back and we\u2019ll give you the nitty-gritty on the OPPO Reno14 5G.<\/p>\n

OPPO blends the familiar with the new for the OPPO Reno14 5G. It takes almost the same shape and form from the Reno13 5G and tweaks it just a bit to refine what was already considered a great looking phone to begin with.<\/p>\n

While still retaining the size at about 6.22\u201d in height and 2.94\u201d in length, OPPO Reno14 5G uses a more symmetrical camera module to house its triple camera array this time around. For the phone that we got (Luminous Green), the camera module has a bit of an outline glow painted in. To be fair, the light glow does lend to the camera module\u2019s glass to render a deeper, more nuanced green. The painting is subtle enough to not make it as distracting as it could be, and a shade or two could end up making the entire approach look cheap.<\/p>\n

Luckily, the layers of subtle color with the matte glass finish of the rear case lends to a very premium-looking device still \u2013 a property that the Reno line has been rocking since its first iteration. OPPO has been positioning Reno as the luxe lifestyle companion and the Reno14 5G\u2019s design is no exception.<\/p>\n

With a super thin bezel of just 1.6mm, the OPPO Reno14 5G still retains its 93.4% screen-to-body ratio with its 6.59\u201d FHD+ (1256 x 2760) display. This gorgeous AMOLED display has a peak brightness of 1200 nits and supports up to 120Hz refresh rate (with 240Hz touch sampling rate).<\/p>\n

The screen configuration coupled with dual firing speakers and an ultra-volume mode that can crank sound up to 200% and not crack.<\/p>\n

Like its predecessor, the OPPO Reno14 5G is powered by a very capable MediaTek Dimensity 8350 processor. This mid-range chip should be able to run your favorite mobile games. We tested it on our usual favorites and got favorable results. From racing game, MOBA, to triple-A games, the OPPO Reno14 5G was able to go through them smoothly even at relatively high graphic settings.<\/p>\n

In fact, for Genshin Impact, the default graphic setting for the OPPO Reno14 5G was automatically set at medium. While it may not be the highest graphic setting, this is already a feat considering some midrange devices still open the game at low graphic as their default.<\/p>\n

The AI GameBoost of the OPPO Reno14 5G also helps optimize the gaming experience further. In fact, as repeatedly mentioned, the Game Mode from ColorOS is one of the best interface we\u2019ve seen and used across multiple systems already. Every OPPO Reno series, we always look out for what the brand has in store especially when it comes to the series\u2019 camera capabilities. For the Reno14 Series, OPPO decided to equip the entire line with a large Telephoto camera. For the OPPO Reno14 5G itself, it comes with both a 50MP Main Shooter and a 50MP Telephoto Camera, both of which have OIS for better picture clarity no matter the distance.<\/p>\n

Rounding off the rear camera module is a modest 8MP ultrawide camera.<\/p>\n

Now just because the lights turned off doesn\u2019t mean the party has to, right? When night time comes and\/or a little low light adventure begins, you can still take excellent shots with the OPPO Reno14 5G. This is thanks, in part, to the phone\u2019s SONY IMX 882 Sensor and an optimized software with seamless AI to help restructure and recompose your shot for the exceptional night time photography.<\/p>\n

If you still need a little bit of light, turning on that flash won\u2019t distort colors and over saturate your subject. The AI Flash Photography coupled with an Industry-leading triple flash design on the OPPO Reno14 5G ensures that each shot produces clear and crisp images even with very little light source.<\/p>\n

The brand introduced their first underwater camera mode on the Reno line with the OPPO Reno13 5G. For this iteration, the feature takes center stage once more (thanks to its IP68\/ 69 dust and water-resistance rating) and this time you automatically shoot videos at 4K resolution. This ensures that you can get more details even under the water.<\/p>\n

As with past OPPO Reno phones, you also gain access to the brand\u2019s AI Studio App where you can rework all your photos into stunning (often quirky) AI-rendered images. It does cost a few diamonds (in-app currency) to generate but you do start with a large pile when you first sign up for the service. Trust us, we\u2019ve been rendering images like crazy, and we barely made a dent in our allocation.<\/p>\n

On the surface, the OPPO Reno14 5G shares a lot of similarities with its predecessor. With only a camera and battery bump on paper, it does beg the question of whether the Reno14 5G can be considered as a full upgrade or is this just OPPO Reno13 Series 5G ProMax Plus Ultra (aka the better or much more realized form of the series)?<\/p>\n

And while you can naturally agree to that, you\u2019ll be remiss to check all the AI optimization done on this device. From productivity tools to photo-enhancement, the OPPO Reno14 5G makes full use of OPPO\u2019s dedication in bringing more AI features to its devices.<\/p>\n
