The \u201cMost Hated Man in America\u201d<\/a> is pretty busy, actually. After being lugged<\/a> around by JoJo Siwa on Special Forces and farting up a storm<\/a> in a Scottish castle on The Traitors, Tom Sandoval<\/a> has returned to our television screens once more \u2014 this time, to prove that he isn\u2019t tone-deaf<\/a> (at least musically speaking).<\/p>\n Sandoval\u2019s band, aptly titled Tom Sandoval & the Most Extras, showed up for a surprise audition on season 20 of America\u2019s Got Talent this year. For some reason, they made the cut. This week, they advanced to the live quarterfinals. To fight for their lives, they performed<\/a> a melodramatic version of the Weeknd\u2019s \u201cBlinding Lights,\u201d which began with Sandoval playing a trumpet on a suspended platform in the dark.<\/p>\n Now, I don\u2019t know much about the technicalities of singing. But I do know that whatever garbled sound reached my ears as Sandoval, wearing sunglasses inside, attempted to mimic Abel Tesfaye\u2019s falsetto was not a pleasant one. Luckily, longtime judge Simon Cowell agreed, throwing an X mid-performance and looking vaguely disappointed for the remainder of the act. \u201cWell, I like Tom, and I like the band. However, you\u2019re judging this performance \u2014 it didn\u2019t sound great. It didn\u2019t,\u201d Cowell later said during the judging panel. \u201cLook, it might just be me from where I sat, but that did not sound good, I\u2019m afraid. It didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe sound was not amazing,\u201d fellow judge Sofia Vergara agreed, though she did enjoy Sandoval\u2019s spirited dance moves.<\/p>\n Sadly for the Most Extras, and happily for me, the band did not advance to the show\u2019s next round. Following their exit, Sandoval told<\/a> the Independent that he\u2019s been taking voice lessons and isn\u2019t ready to give up on his music career.
