{"id":149253,"date":"2025-10-28T08:59:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T08:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/149253\/"},"modified":"2025-10-28T08:59:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T08:59:07","slug":"president-higgins-spends-second-night-in-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/149253\/","title":{"rendered":"President Higgins spends second night in hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Michael D Higgins has spent a second night in hospital for the treatment of an infection.<\/p>\n<p>President Higgins is in St James&#8217;s Hospital in Dublin where he is having antibiotic treatment for a localised infection.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, a spokesperson said the president&#8217;s condition had improved but that he would remain in hospital to continue the course of antibiotics.<\/p>\n<p>He said the president was in good spirits and feeling well.<\/p>\n<p>President Higgins travelled to the hospital by arrangement on Sunday and stayed in overnight for the last two nights.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, President Higgins spent several days in St James&#8217;s Hospital as a precaution to monitor his blood pressure.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, the president thanked the public for the &#8220;outpouring&#8221; of support he had received.<\/p>\n<p>He later revealed he had suffered a mild stroke.<\/p>\n<p>President Higgins will remain in office at \u00c1ras an Uachtar\u00e1in until Catherine Connolly&#8217;s inauguration in Dublin Castle on 11 November.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"President Michael D Higgins has spent a second night in hospital for the treatment of an infection.
