{"id":149556,"date":"2025-10-28T12:51:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T12:51:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/149556\/"},"modified":"2025-10-28T12:51:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T12:51:12","slug":"timber-museum-to-be-kere-architectures-first-cultural-project-in-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/149556\/","title":{"rendered":"Timber museum to be K\u00e9r\u00e9 Architecture&#8217;s first cultural project in Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Berlin-based studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/diebedo-francis-kere\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">K\u00e9r\u00e9 Architecture<\/a> has unveiled plans for an art and photography <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/museums\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">museum<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/germany\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Germany<\/a>, which will feature an 80-metre-long <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/rammed-earth\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rammed-earth<\/a> wall and a timber pergola.<\/p>\n<p>Set to be located in Pl\u00fcschow, a village in northern Germany, Museum Ehrhardt will encompass 1,400 square metres of exhibition and public space alongside a 3,900-square-metre garden.<\/p>\n<p>The new museum will sit alongside Schloss Pl\u00fcschow, an artist residency and gallery already on the site and, once complete, will be studio founder Di\u00e9b\u00e9do Francis K\u00e9r\u00e9&#8217;s first cultural project in the country.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2262898 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/museum-ehrhardt-kere-architecture-germany_dezeen_2364_col_9-852x602.jpg\" alt=\"Exterior render of the Museum Ehrhardt in Germany\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1671\"  \/>K\u00e9r\u00e9 Architecture has designed an art and photography museum in Germany<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kerearchitecture.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">K\u00e9r\u00e9 Architecture<\/a> drew on the local context for its design, nodding to traditional gabled forms for its external timber structure and the historical use of clay for its rammed earth walls.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The building&#8217;s architecture is contextual and craft-focused, employing regional techniques with wood and clay construction,&#8221; the studio said.<\/p>\n<p>The museum will be contained within a wooden rectilinear volume, which will feature asymmetrical inward curves on two facades to accommodate a tree on one side and an outdoor seating space on the other.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2262892 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/museum-ehrhardt-kere-architecture-germany_dezeen_2364_col_3-852x602.jpg\" alt=\"Textured interior of museum by K\u00e9r\u00e9 Architecture\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1671\"  \/>A timber pergola will enclose the building<\/p>\n<p>Framing this main volume, the timber pergola has been designed for future dismantling and will extend outwards on its southern facade to shelter a portion of the garden.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors will enter the building through a protruding entrance that will open up to a reception desk and museum shop before reaching the gallery spaces.<\/p>\n<p>Inside, the exhibition space will be organised around an 80-metre-long rammed-earth wall that winds around the interior.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2262900 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/museum-ehrhardt-kere-architecture-germany-hero_dezeen_2364_col_1-852x479.jpg\" alt=\"Interior render of exhibition space by K\u00e9r\u00e9 Architecture\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1330\"  \/>The exhibition space will feature a curving rammed-earth wall<\/p>\n<p>Its organic form will curve round to enclose a gallery at one end of the space and a multifunctional room at the other, while a more open and flexible exhibition space will sit between them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The wall also improves the indoor climate by balancing humidity and temperature through its thermal mass,&#8221;
