The 72-year-old actor, who played 007 across four films from <a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/pierce-brosnan-goldeneye-theaters-re-release-date-james-bond-day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>GoldenEye<\/strong><\/a> to <strong>Die Another Day<\/strong>, recently stated in an interview he\u2019d come back \u201cin a heartbeat\u201d if <a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/next-james-bond-casting-details-denis-villenueve-male-british-fresh-face\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>Dune<\/strong> and <strong>Sicario<\/strong> filmmaker <strong>Denis Villeneuve<\/strong><\/a> approached him to be part of the next Bond installment. Brosnan, who first donned the tuxedo in 1995, added that he and his wife, <strong>Keely Shaye Brosnan<\/strong>, have talked about the rumors swirling around who will be the next 007.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cMy wife Keely and I have been listening to the drumbeat of expectation of who&#8217;s going to be the next James Bond. There are many great candidates out there, and I&#8217;m sure they&#8217;re going to make it a spectacle of delight.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But if Villeneuve came calling, Brosnan wouldn\u2019t hesitate \u2014 even if it meant embracing a <a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/daniel-craig-james-bond-performances-ranked\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">very different kind of Bond<\/a>, a retired 007.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI don&#8217;t think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond. But if Villeneuve had something up his sleeve I would look at it in a heartbeat. Why not? It&#8217;s great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics\u2026 who knows?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>                        How Was Pierce Brosnan Fired as James Bond?<\/p>\n<p>Brosnan\u2019s final <a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/daniel-craig-skyfall-prime-video-global-streaming-success-october-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">appearance as Bond<\/a> came in 2002\u2019s Die Another Day, a film that ended his tenure with a surprisingly abrupt goodbye. Speaking candidly about his departure, Brosnan recalled being blindsided by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/james-bond-streaming-trigger-warnings-amazon-backlash-over-woke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Eon Productions<\/a>\u2019<\/strong> decision to let him go just as talks began for his fifth outing.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI was in the Bahamas working on After the Sunset when my agents called me and said, \u2018Negotiations have stopped.&#8217; Barbara [Broccoli] and Michael [G. Wilson] were not quite sure what they wanted to do next with the franchise. They said, \u2018They\u2019ll call you next Thursday.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That call didn\u2019t bring good news for Brosnan, who very quickly learned that his time as the world&#8217;s most famous spy was coming to an end.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI sat in <strong>Richard Harris<\/strong>\u2019 house in the Bahamas, and Barbara and Michael were on the line. [They said]: \u2018We\u2019re so sorry,\u2019\u201d Brosnan recalled. \u201cBarbara was crying. Michael was stoic and he said: \u2018You were a great James Bond. Thank you very much.\u2019 And I said: \u2018Thank you very much. Goodbye.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He added, \u201cThat was it.
