Doctors and medical societies consider acetaminophen the <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/healthcare-pharmaceuticals\/is-tylenol-safe-take-during-pregnancy-2025-09-22\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">best option<\/a> for treating fever and pain during pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>Kenvue has repeatedly defended Tylenol&#8217;s safety, and in a statement said it would defend against Paxton&#8217;s lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Acetaminophen is the safest pain reliever option for pregnant women as needed throughout their entire pregnancy,&#8221; Kenvue said. &#8220;We are deeply concerned by the perpetuation of misinformation on the safety of acetaminophen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Johnson &amp; Johnson did not comment on Paxton&#8217;s lawsuit, and in a separate statement said Kenvue is responsible for &#8220;all rights and liabilities associated with the sale of its over-the-counter products, including Tylenol.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kenvue shares closed down 57 cents, or 3.8%, at $14.51, while Johnson &amp; Johnson shares fell $3.37, or 1.8%, to $186.93.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Kenvue have fallen more than 20% since Trump discussed Tylenol and autism on September 22, including a 7.5% decline that day.<\/p>\n<p>PAXTON SAYS U.S. &#8216;CONFIRMED&#8217; TYLENOL&#8217;S RISKS<\/p>\n<p>Paxton filed his complaint in a Texas state court in rural Panola County, which borders Louisiana and where Trump won 83% of the vote in the 2024 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>He said the federal government &#8220;confirmed&#8221; last month that using acetaminophen during pregnancy likely causes autism and ADHD, and that despite &#8220;overwhelming evidence&#8221; Johnson &amp; Johnson and Kenvue did not warn pregnant women of the risks.<\/p>\n<p>Paxton also cited Trump urging pregnant women not to use Tylenol unless it was &#8220;absolutely necessary,&#8221; a claim the president repeated in a Truth Social post on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The attorney general said Johnson &amp; Johnson and Kenvue violated a Texas law against deceptive trade practices by concealing the risks.<\/p>\n<p>He also said Johnson &amp; Johnson violated a Texas law against fraudulent transfers by spinning off Kenvue to shield itself from liability.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson &amp; Johnson is based in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and Kenvue in Summit, New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>Paxton is mounting a primary challenge next year against incumbent Senator John Cornyn, positioning himself to the right of the four-term Republican and as a strong supporter of Trump&#8217;s agenda.<\/p>\n<p>AUTISM A CONCERN FOR RFK JRLast month, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it would seek <a data-testid=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/press-room\/hhs-trump-kennedy-autism-initiatives-leucovorin-tylenol-research-2025.html\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC link-module__with-icon__qlg76\">new warning labels, opens new tab<\/a> for acetaminophen to reflect the drug&#8217;s potential links to neurodevelopmental disorders.<\/p>\n<p>Autism has been a longtime concern of U.S. Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose agency includes the FDA.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of private lawsuits have also been filed by families who said their children suffered from autism or ADHD after their mothers used Tylenol during pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>A judge dismissed many of those cases last December, and the federal appeals court in Manhattan will hear arguments in the families&#8217; appeal on November 17.<\/p>\n<p>The law firm Keller Postman represents families in that appeal, and is also working with Paxton on his lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson &amp; Johnson separately faces <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/litigation\/johnson-johnson-ordered-pay-966-million-after-jury-finds-company-liable-talc-2025-10-07\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lawsuits<\/a> from more than 73,000 plaintiffs who said they were diagnosed with cancer after using its baby powder and other talc products.<\/p>\n<p>Federal courts have rejected three efforts by the company to resolve those cases through bankruptcy.<\/p>\n<p>Concerns about Tylenol&#8217;s safety did not mount until after Johnson &amp;
