A fundraiser launched for a Belfast<\/a> man who tragically drowned while on holidays has seen an outpouring of support.<\/p>\n “Heartbroken” Gerald O\u2019Neill, from Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland, has set up a GoFundMe<\/a> in memory of his close friend Anthony Smyth, from north Belfast, who sadly lost his life in a drowning incident while on holiday at Green Canyon in Turkey.<\/p>\n Anthony, aged 39, went missing last Wednesday after getting into difficulty while swimming, and was found dead several days later.<\/p>\n He had been enjoying a trip with his girlfriend Susana, who remains in Turkey<\/a> as the family works with authorities to bring Anthony home to Belfast. A delivery driver and lifelong Cliftonville FC fan, Anthony was well known in the local community for his humour, loyalty and kindness.<\/p>\n Gerald and friends have launched the GoFundMe to support the Smyth family with repatriation costs and funeral arrangements, helping ease the burden as they navigate this heart-breaking loss.<\/p>\n A post on GoFundMe read: “We are heartbroken to share that our dear friend Anthony tragically drowned while on holiday at Green Canyon, Turkey. He was having a wonderful time with his girlfriend, Susana, when the accident happened.<\/p>\n “We\u2019ve started a GoFundMe to support Anthony’s family during this devastating time.
