But what are designers actually seeing in their client requests, material orders, and finished projects? We asked, and designers report that clients are pushing for more warmth, more depth, and considerably more risk. They&#8217;re asking for walnut instead of white oak, merlot instead of greige, and color combinations that shouldn&#8217;t work in theory but create undeniable atmosphere in practice.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"1\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Here&#8217;s what the ground-level shift looks like for 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Warmer, Richer Neutrals<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"4\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elledecor.com\/design-decorate\/color\/a64654252\/6-neutral-paint-colors-that-can-liven-up-a-room\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.elledecor.com\/design-decorate\/color\/a64654252\/6-neutral-paint-colors-that-can-liven-up-a-room\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Neutrals\" data-node-id=\"4.0\" class=\"body-link css-1c3jgal emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Neutrals<\/a> aren\u2019t going anywhere\u2014they\u2019re just getting warmer and richer. \u201cClients are leaning towards richer stains on wood finishes and away from \u2018millennial grey\u2019,\u201d says Stephanie Hunt, founder and creative director of design firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/theflairhunter\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/theflairhunter\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"The Flairhunter.\" data-node-id=\"4.2\" class=\"body-link css-1c3jgal emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Flairhunter.<\/a> \u201cWarmer, friendlier finishes that don\u2019t feel too austere or minimal are what clients are gravitating towards.\u201d Emily Lindemann of design firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rlbhouse.com\/emilys-bio\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.rlbhouse.com\/emilys-bio\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Ruggles Lindemann Bell \" data-node-id=\"4.4\" class=\"body-link css-1c3jgal emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ruggles Lindemann Bell <\/a>echoes the sentiment, noting that clients are loving browns, rusts, and greens, especially.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"5\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Jen Baxter of <a href=\"https:\/\/baxterhillinteriors.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/baxterhillinteriors.com\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Baxter Hill Interiors\" data-node-id=\"5.1\" class=\"body-link css-1c3jgal emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Baxter Hill Interiors<\/a> predicts palettes with \u201cmore depth and a continuing shift toward earthy, organic mid-tones: chalky rose, smoky blue, tobacco brown, dusty olive, sunbaked terracotta, soft charcoal. Colors that feel timeworn\u2014like they already belong to the house.\u201d Matthias Silverton, interior designer and consultant at <a href=\"https:\/\/thesnugco.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/thesnugco.com\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"The Snug Co.\" data-node-id=\"5.3\" class=\"body-link css-1c3jgal emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Snug Co.<\/a>, is seeing earth tones and textured finishes\u2014specifically &#8220;rich combinations of olive green, mustard yellow, and burnt orange colors.\u201d Essentially, if it looks like it&#8217;s been sun-soaked for decades or plucked straight from nature, it&#8217;s in.<\/p>\n<p><img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"photographerfrank frances, agencyart department, digital techolivia demetros, stylistrebecca bartoshesky\" title=\"Brownstone Boys\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1125\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/a96fd98f-bd63-4e52-b3c5-3754fae956c2.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1g79fud0\"\/>Dusty Jewel Tones<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"8\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">\u201c2026 is all about jewel tones, but with an even dustier finish,\u201d says Hunt. \u201cThink your grandmother\u2019s emerald ring, discovered after 50 years in a jewelry box.\u201d Emily LaMarque, principal and CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emilylamarque.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.emilylamarque.com\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Emily LaMarque Design Studio\" data-node-id=\"8.1\" class=\"body-link css-1c3jgal emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Emily LaMarque Design Studio<\/a>, is seeing clients gravitate toward more saturated, rich hues, like deep sapphire and Prussian blues, muted emerald and earthy greens, as well as some subdued cranberry reds. Manuella Moreira, principal and founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/manuellamoreira.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/manuellamoreira.com\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Manuella Moreira Interiors\" data-node-id=\"8.3\" class=\"body-link css-1c3jgal emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Manuella Moreira Interiors<\/a>, agrees: \u201cTrends are moving toward jewel-tone palettes that bring greater depth and dimension to interiors. Deep blues and greens can ground a room with a sense of calm, and when layered with tones like amethyst, they introduce personality and sophistication.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unexpected Color Pairings<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"10\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Perhaps the most exciting trend for 2026 is unexpected, high-contrast color stories. Sarah and Rebecca Goesling of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goeslinggroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.goeslinggroup.com\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Goesling Group\" data-node-id=\"10.1\" class=\"body-link css-1c3jgal emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Goesling Group<\/a> are particularly bullish on this approach. \u201cLooking ahead to 2026, colors will be less about what looks timeless and more about what feels timeless,\u201d they say. \u201cWe\u2019re gravitating towards shades that awaken mood, touch, and memory\u2014both expressive and enduring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"11\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">They\u2019re seeing \u201cadrenaline-fueled hues\u201d like teal, cobalt, periwinkle, and chartreuse taking central stage, but with a twist: these energetic colors are balanced by grounded, pragmatic counterparts.
