As an Oscar and BAFTA-winning screenwriter thanks to her 1995 adaptation of \u201cSense &amp; Sensibility,\u201d Thompson is especially irate when it comes to AI chatbots asking to rewrite her work. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIntense irritation. I cannot begin to tell you,\u201d Thompson said about her feelings on AI. \u201cBecause I write long hand on a pad, old script actually, because I believe that there is a connection between the brain and the hand. So it\u2019s very important to me. And then when I\u2019ve written something, I will put it into a Word document. And recently, the Word document is constantly saying, \u2018Would you like me to rewrite that for you?\u2019 And so I end up just saying, \u2019I don\u2019t need you to rewrite what I\u2019ve just written, will you fuck off?! Just fuck off!\u201d I\u2019m so annoyed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhen Colbert told Thompson to just show her computer her Oscar statue for adapted screenplay, Thompson said: \u201cI don\u2019t think it would care.\u201d She then said technology has long complicated her screenwriting process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWhen I was finishing \u2018Sense &amp; Sensibility\u2019 on the computer, I came back from the bathroom to find that it had changed the entire script into hieroglyphs,\u201d Thompson remembered. \u201cThe script, completely gone. I panicked. I went to Stephen Fry\u2019s house because I didn\u2019t have another copy, and Steven spent 8 hours and it came out in one long sentence. I had to re-do it. The computer had taken it and hidden it\u2026 like it had done it on purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThompson is the latest Oscar winner to speak out against AI in Hollywood. Guillermo del Toro, whose latest movie \u201cFrankenstein\u201d arrives Nov. 7 on Netflix, recently told <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/10\/23\/nx-s1-5577963\/guillermo-del-toro-frankenstein\">NPR<\/a> that he would rather die than have to use AI in his filmmaking process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cAI, particularly generative AI \u2014 I am not interested, nor will I ever be interested,\u201d del Toro said. \u201cI\u2019m 61, and I hope to be able to remain uninterested in using it at all until I croak. \u2026 The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, \u2018What is your stance on AI?\u2019 And my answer was very short.
