In the Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel district alone, there were four incidents across the October bank holiday weekend that left homeowners and businesses without water across the weekend.<\/p>\n
Four separate incidents left homes and businesses across Tipperary without water, including interruptions in Shronell, Tipperary town, Ballinulty, and Donohill.<\/p>\n
A reservoir interruption affected homes in the Shronell, Lattin and surrounding areas, while an interruption to a water treatment plant in Tipperary town left people in the Avondale Court, Saint Michael’s Avenue, St Ailbe\u2019s Drive, and James Connolly Park areas with limited water supplies across the weekend.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere, homes and businesses in the Ballinulty, Ballinard, and Cullen areas saw interruptions in water supplies over the weekend, while a burst water main in Donohill meant homes and businesses in Donohill, Silverhill, Farnaclara, Reddinswalk, and Bohertrime also had disruptions in supply.<\/p>\n
Local independent councillor John O\u2019Heney said that the issues are \u201cnothing short of a scandal\u201d and called for a full investigation.<\/p>\n
“The water situation is nothing short of a scandal at the moment. I am blue in the face from raising it with Irish Water,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
“All week and all weekend no Water in so many areas around Tipperary,\u201d Cllr O\u2019Heney added.<\/p>\n
The councillor questioned how water could be gone so regularly in a country that gets so much rain.<\/p>\n
“How in this day and age can the water be off every second day? It rains constantly and yet we have no water,\u201d he hit out.<\/p>\n
“There needs to be a root and branch investigation into the water issues in my opinion,\u201d Cllr O\u2019Heney said.<\/p>\n
Water issues have been ongoing across the county throughout October, with a local business being forced to close for the day because of it.<\/p>\n
The Carvery Restaurant in Tipperary town was forced to close and lost a full day trading earlier this month due to having no water.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the Irish Independent over the summer, restaurant owner Darren Connor said that up to August, they had lost five days trading so far this year due to repeated water outages.<\/p>\n
“Rising costs in the restaurant sector has been a nuisance for everybody, and we\u2019re no different to anyone else, we\u2019re lucky enough we\u2019re busy enough as it is, but this year alone we\u2019ve lost five full days with no water, so that\u2019s tough on top of everything else\u201d Mr Connor explained.<\/p>\n
