Tyler, The Creator<\/a> has revealed that he originally planned for \u2018CHROMAKOPIA\u2019<\/a> to be his \u201clast album for a very long time\u201d.<\/p>\n

The California artist released the record \u2013 his eighth full-length project \u2013 this time last year, before following it up with \u2018Don\u2019t Tap The Glass\u2019<\/a> this summer. Both LPs topped the Billboard 200 chart in the US.<\/p>\n

Writing on social media yesterday (Tuesday October 28), Tyler directed his followers to the song \u2018Mother\u2019 from the new deluxe edition of his 2024 LP, \u2018CHROMAKOPIA+\u2019, which arrived on the first anniversary of \u2018CHROMAKOPIA\u2019.<\/p>\n

He explained that the track dates back to 2020, and was \u201cthe first song [he] made\u201d for the original version of \u2018CHROMAKOPIA\u2019. \u201c[I\u2019m] still not sure why I took it off last minute,\u201d Tyler added. \u201cIt\u2019s pretty much the grounding piece of the album.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rapper and singer said he was sharing \u2018Mother\u2019 now as part of \u2018CHROMAKOPIA+\u2019 because he \u201cdidn\u2019t want to release the song out of context\u201d.<\/p>\n

Speaking further about \u2018CHROMAKOPIA\u2019, Tyler explained: \u201cI was planning on this being my last album for a VERY long time. Release it. Do the big tour. Go disappear and only pop out for movie roles. See what a life is like without work being top of mind. It\u2019s hard tho, I love making things.<\/p>\n

\u201cI laugh to myself a lot because this album ended up taking me places the others didn\u2019t. 15 years in; biggest it\u2019s ever been. I\u2019m in awe of the success. And what a beautiful tour! Love to the whole team!\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cIt\u2019s been a year since release, time is moving. To those who love this body of work, tell me about it. I hope it holds weight in your life. Thank you. What an incredible year.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018CHROMAKOPIA\u2019 earned a three-star review from NME<\/a>. \u201cTyler, The Creator, is building a landscape of chaos that reflects his own psychological conflict. And in that sense, \u2018Chromakopia\u2019 succeeds on its own terms,\u201d it read.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithin the chaos, there\u2019s beauty \u2014 the sensitivity of \u2018Hey Jane\u2019, the infectious hip-hop bite of \u2018Thought I Was Dead\u2019, the rising cacophonies of brass and percussion on \u2018I Killed You\u2019. But perhaps a less frantic approach would\u2019ve benefited the listen overall.\u201d<\/p>\n

NME then gave \u2018Don\u2019t Tap The Glass\u2019 four stars<\/a>, writing: \u201cShedding the cinematic sprawl and narrative pathos of last year\u2019s \u2018Chromakopia\u2019, Tyler steps away from the character-driven framing of Wolf Haley or Sir Baudelaire. The paranoia and parasocial tension explored on that record still linger \u2013 but beneath cartoonish \u201980s rap armour.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s part Kurtis Blow and part LL Cool J<\/a>, encased in a clear Perspex chamber like a collector\u2019s action figure. Instead of inviting connection, Tyler shields himself behind the glass: a museum piece for dance and display only.\u201d<\/p>\n

The latter marks Tyler\u2019s ninth studio album, and was announced as a surprise during one of his shows in New York this summer<\/a> on the \u2018Chromakopia\u2019 tour. He\u2019d previously hosted a three-night residency at The O2 in London as part of the trek<\/a>, marking his first performances in the capital in six years.<\/p>\n

Tyler is set to return to London next year with a two-day takeover of All Points East 2026<\/a>. He\u2019ll headline both nights, with support coming from the likes of Rex Orange County<\/a>,\u00a0Turnstile<\/a>, Daniel Caesar<\/a> and Baby Keem<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Tyler will make his feature-length debut in Josh Safdie\u2019s upcoming A24 film, Marty Supreme<\/a>, alongside Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet. Check out the first critic reactions here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
