Crosbie was told he would serve not less than seven years and not more than nine. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">His victim told the court that nobody should have to go through what she did. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Crosbie was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/crime-law\/courts\/2025\/10\/24\/dublin-firefighter-found-guilty-of-rape-in-boston-hotel-room\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/crime-law\/courts\/2025\/10\/24\/dublin-firefighter-found-guilty-of-rape-in-boston-hotel-room\/\">convicted last Friday<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">On Thursday morning, prosecutor Erin Murphy asked the judge for a sentence of nine to 12 years, calling what Crosbie did a \u201cBlitzkrieg in the four walls of a hotel room\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cNo one should ever go through what I went through,\u201d his victim said. \u201cTerence Crosbie raped me and thought he could get away with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Crosbie\u2019s lawyer Daniel Reilly asked the judge for a sentence of three to five years and said his client would work to be a better man. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Crosbie told the court: \u201cI understand the seriousness of the situation.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A jury found him guilty of raping a 29-year-old attorney in a hotel room he had shared with a colleague during a trip to the US city for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/st-patricks-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/st-patricks-day\/\">St Patrick\u2019s Day<\/a> weekend. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The jury of six men and six women returned their verdict after 4\u00bd days of arguments and more than 15 hours of deliberation. He had faced up to 20 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/crime-law\/courts\/2025\/10\/25\/terence-crosbie-boston-rape-case-irish-firefighter-how-a-jury-came-to-find-dublin-firefighter-guilty-of-rape\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">How the Boston jury reached its verdict Opens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A previous trial ended in a hung jury. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Both Crosbie and his victim testified in both trials, with Crosbie denying he had ever touched the woman and insisting his bed was empty when he returned to his hotel room.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">She told the court she met Crosbie\u2019s colleague, Liam O\u2019Brien, at a bar and went back to the Omni Parker hotel with him but was unaware Mr O\u2019Brien had a roommate. She said she later woke up to find Crosbie actively raping her. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Crosbie has remained in remand since he was arrested on March 16th, 2024, attempting to leave the country on an early flight home. The initial trial in June resulted in a mistrial. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He elected to testify in both trials, insisting he was innocent. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThere was nobody in my bed, my bed was empty,\u201d he told the jury earlier this month. He \u201cabsolutely did not\u201d rape the victim, he told the court. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The victim, who presented her tearful testimony to two separate jury panels, told the court that she woke up to Crosbie penetrating her and pinning her shoulders down in the bed. He told her that she \u201cliked it\u201d and disparaged Mr O\u2019Brien who continued to snore throughout the duration of the assault. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cWhat are you doing? Stop,\u201d she said, according to testimony. Crosbie did not stop, she said. She broke free by manoeuvring her legs to the ground. Crosbie continued to follow her around the room and pressed her up against the wall and kissed her as she collected her clothes and escaped to the bathroom. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">When she left the hotel room shortly after 2am on March 15th she texted a friend, walked home, and immediately took a ride-share to the hospital where she reported the assault. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The victim was cross examined about her alcohol intake, use of psychiatric medication, and promiscuity. In closing arguments the defence argued that the victim was an \u201cunreliable reporter\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The prosecution argued that Crosbie\u2019s testimony was \u201cscripted\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Dublin firefighter Terence Crosbie has been sentenced to at least seven years in prison.
