{"id":15367,"date":"2025-08-22T04:02:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-22T04:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/15367\/"},"modified":"2025-08-22T04:02:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-22T04:02:11","slug":"man-stopped-at-dublin-airport-by-homeland-security-is-charged-over-child-sex-abuse-animation-images-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/15367\/","title":{"rendered":"Man stopped at Dublin Airport by Homeland Security is charged over child sex abuse animation images \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A young man travelling to a comic book convention in the United States was stopped by Homeland Security at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-airport\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-airport\/\">Dublin Airport<\/a> and found with child sex abuse animation images, a court has heard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Finley Bowd (21), of Harbour View Close, Brixham, Devon, England, was arrested at Terminal 2 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He appeared before Judge John Brennan at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-district-court\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin-district-court\/\">Dublin District Court<\/a> on Thursday, when Detective Garda Rebecca Doyle said he made \u201cno reply\u201d when charged with two offences under section 6.1 of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The shop cashier, who had been travelling to New York for a Comic Con event, was arrested and had his phone seized. He is accused of possessing anime images of child sexual abuse and having category-three child pornography anime images.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The judge noted the involvement of Homeland Security, the US federal agency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The accused has not yet formally entered a plea and was remanded on \u20ac400 bail to appear again on November 6th for directions from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/director-of-public-prosecutions\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/director-of-public-prosecutions\/\">Director of Public Prosecutions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Initially objecting to bail because the accused was a UK national and allegedly a flight risk, Det Garda Doyle agreed to bail terms following exchanges with defence barrister Paddy Flynn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Det Garda Doyle agreed with him that his client was making his way to a flight to New York and there was a \u201crandom stop\u201d at Terminal 2. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The detective also accepted that Mr Bowd was co-operative. Contact has been made with a family member, and garda\u00ed made enquiries with the UK, establishing he has not come to police attention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mr Flynn said his client\u2019s mother would provide support, and he could be reached on her phone.
