{"id":1543,"date":"2025-08-16T04:44:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T04:44:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/1543\/"},"modified":"2025-08-16T04:44:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T04:44:09","slug":"sophie-ellis-bextor-on-new-album-murder-on-the-dancefloor-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/1543\/","title":{"rendered":"Sophie Ellis-Bextor On New Album, &#8216;Murder on the Dancefloor&#8217; &#038; More"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tU.K. singer-songwriter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/sophie-ellis-bextor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Sophie Ellis-Bextor<\/a> is coming off a year in which she felt \u201clike after you have a glass of champagne and you\u2019re a bit heady.\u201d After her 2001 disco-pop classic, \u201cMurder on the Dancefloor,\u201d was revived by its use in 2023 black comedy Saltburn, the song once again became a global smash, reaching the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/charts\/hot-100\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Billboard Hot 100<\/a> for the first time in the United States (peaking at No. 51) and matching its 25-year-old No. 2 peak in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAfter spending a year flaunting her new commercial appeal \u2014 including on her first-ever U.S. tour \u2014 Ellis-\u00adBextor returns with Perimenopop. Out Sept. 12, the album features 12 sparkling dancefloor jams as intoxicating, clever and honest as its title, as well as collaborators such as disco legend Nile Rodgers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThanks to \u2018Murder,\u2019 I basically just wrote a wish list,\u201d she says, \u201cand I completely took advantage of the fact that I could then get in the studio with people who maybe might not have [otherwise] had time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<strong>What was the craziest moment from the entire \u00ad\u201cMurder\u201d revival?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThat\u2019s easy: It\u2019s definitely the fact that I\u2019ve now done gigs in America. In the beginning of last year, I\u2019d never done so much as a radio interview. I started those gigs thinking, \u201cIs this going to be a room full of people waiting for me to sing one song?\u201d But I was met with a lot of people who clearly had been supporting what I\u2019m up to from far away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<strong>I have to say, <\/strong><strong>Perimenopop<\/strong><strong> \u2014 album title of the year. How did you come up with it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor me and all my girlfriends in our mid-40s, there\u2019s a bit of a narrative about some aspects that might sound a bit gloomy. And I just wanted something that would flip the script on it a little bit \u2014 and also invite into the room the fact that I\u2019m not the way I was when I was 20. I think it\u2019s also quite a good indicator of how much more ballsy I\u2019ve gotten as I\u2019ve gotten older. But how lucky am I that I\u2019ve been able to have a career long enough to feel that comfortable?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<strong>What was it like working with Nile Rodgers?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTo hear all the stories and just be imbued with someone [who] direct-line influenced and inspired me so much was really cool. I think my favorite bit was Nile talking about Madonna, and I said, \u201cHave you seen her recently?\u201d He went, \u201cYeah, we went roller skating together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<strong>Are you liking what you\u2019re seeing from the rest of the U.K. pop world these days?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhat happened with Charli xcx and brat is \u00adobviously so brilliant. But also what I love about it is it really lets the mask fall. And I think teenage me would have completely resonated with that.
